"Y–you can't be serious right now."
"No. I'm not playing around. It's the only way that I would ever help you."
Do I want to do this? I shouldn't... But if I don't– If I don't... I'll be burned. All for eyes to see.
I... I don't want to die. Not yet.
I didn't really have much choice other than this. I had to. I just–...had to.
Slowly, I lowered my pride, nodding at the blonde before me as I inhaled a rough breath before saying, "I'll do it. I'll be your servant if you would help me clear my name." There's not much left for me to say other than that.
"Fantastic," she said. A wide smile plastered on her porcelain white skin. Her creased brow finally lost its tension and her face completely lightened.
I turned to look at both Pierre and Godric, who both share an apologetic gaze my way.
I can't believe this... I really just said "yes" to selling my freedom just to clear my name from a stupid misunderstanding.
I'm not sure how this will play out, but I do hope it works.
I said my goodbyes to Pierre and his uncle and followed Hilda out the door. We walked down the long, dimly lit corridor. All heads were turned and anxious eyes were fixed on us. Some of the knights drew their swords as soon as they saw me, but their resolve wavered when they saw Hilda walking alongside me. They only exchanged wary glances and puzzled looks at Hilda.
I couldn't help but stare at the blonde girl. Her hair flutters with every step she takes. Her steps had a sense of purpose to them. She raised her chin and ignored everyone, even motioning to the knight to put their swords away.
In contrast to Hilda's confident strides, I could feel my legs wobble as I walked farther down the hallway. I lowered my head, avoiding every gaze that was fixed on me.
We walked for a long time, turning left and right and climbing a few flights of stairs.
Hilda came to a halt as we approached a door that was tall enough to tower over a bus. As I clutched the side of my dress, I could feel my body stiffen. My breathing became erratic as I couldn't muster the energy to walk any further.
Hilda turned to face me after noticing how I had stopped following her. Her face flashed with a worried expression before she put a warm smile on her lips.
"Hey, it's all right. We're clearing your name, and after that, you'll be free to walk around town without fear of being followed or being stared at." She spoke in a dreamy tone. Her round, icy blue eyes bore right into mine as she placed a hand on my shoulder. "However," she sighed, "you can always wait outside if you don't feel like going in."
