I walked and walked till we arrived, at a cosy-looking house. It had a sign that said "Jericho's Inn". I raised an eyebrow at the sign and turned to look at Nicholas with a scoff.
"Are you seriously going to be drinking right now? It's not even noon yet."
"I'm not going to drink, Petal. Don't worry. I'm just going to meet a friend."
"Let me guess. Is it a girl?"
He didn't answer as he seemed to be breathing slowly as he glanced at the door. He then kicked the dirt off his boots before walking into the inn. Jo and I followed him right in, and when we were inside, I saw a beautiful ginger-haired lady and a man with a scruffy mane. The lady smiled a friendly grin at us.
Her silky ginger hair was braided in two. Her freckled olive skin and green eyes were a perfect fit for her beautiful smile. The man beside her had a big figure. He's big and tall. When the two looked at each other, their eyes filled with love and happiness. I stared at them in awe. I never find love to be something that I'm desperate to find, but seeing the two made me feel like there's a good side to love too.
"Oh dear, Nicholas, miss me already? At this point Gerald is going to get jealous," she said with a small laugh.
The man beside her came and wrapped his arm around her waist and nodded as he barked a friendly laugh.
"I would have been jealous years ago if it was anyone else," he said. "But still don't you even think about it."
Nicholas only laughed. "It's nothing like that, Gerald. Feiya is a friend and that's all she will ever be," he said, sounding so unconvincing, almost as if he was speaking to himself rather than the couple.
The two looked at each other before sharing a laugh. "We know, Nicholas. It would be the end of the world if you think of anything like that of my wife."
"I'm hurt by you two teasing me so early in the morning," the lady said. "Same as usual?"
Nicholas nodded and sat on one of the high chairs near the counter, letting his eyes wander towards the two in a lonely stare. I merely stared at him before looking at Jo. The male servant looked rather stiff as he looked ahead in the distance. He looked human, yet acted almost as if he was not entitled to being one.
"Jo, how long have you worked under the prick?"
The boy flinched, probably over me calling Nicholas a prick, but he remained stiff and silent. I stared and stared before I sighed, turning my attention back to the empty space. Just looking far ahead and starting to grow dazed before the boy asked in a voice as quiet as a whisper, "Why?"
I stared at him again. "Is he and that lady good friends?"
Again, he left me hanging and remained silent. I could see his eyes travelling towards his young master and the lady before he heaved a low sigh.
