They looked as if they had never seen each other before.
True and false.
Terrance looked at them all, noticing new and old faces.
"What the hell happened while I was asleep?"
Silence settled down again, with no answer back. Terrance shifted his attention to Michael, who was also staring at him but frozen.
"Mikey?.. What's going on here?"
"Mikey!?"
Terrance turned to a boy's irritated voice. He seemed familiar, but he wasn't sure where and with whom. Brown and slightly wavy hair. The striped blouse or T-shirt he was wearing under a black blouse.
"Uh.. Yes? He's just my brother." He answered confused and confident.
C.C looked at him in amazement and irritation, taking a step towards Terrance.
"Who are you to address my brother like that?"
"What are you talking about? I'm Terrance Afton. Michael's been my brother for as long as I've known him." He frowned at Chris, still not remembering who the boy was.
"I'm C.C Afton." He told him serious, his eyes twinkling briefly. He ignored the name that haunted his memory for only a few seconds.
Terrance blinked a few times, now remembering what seemed so familiar to him. He was his adopted younger brother. He never knew how to feel about him. He did not even know that his mother wanted to adopt a new child, after learning that it was, in fact, his father's idea. When Chris came home, he didn't feel uncomfortable or ecstatic, he was neutral. The truth was, that he hadn't even had time to spend much time with his younger brother and sister, resulting in dislike and discomfort from the two of them for Terrance. C.C's now being amplified.
Michael watched his brothers, getting up from the floor and walked over to them. He wasn't sure what to do at this point, how to proceed. Normally he is the one who creates problems and was arguing, now he is in the middle of a problem. He knew the relationship between C.C and Terrance in the past: distant, little communication, Terry more away from home, and Chris was very young at that time. And soon, Terrance's death. Which brought Michael to fear in his younger brother till death.
"C.C- "
"Did you run away for him!?" The youngest son of the Afton family interrupted him.
"What?.. No- No. I didn't even know I'd run into Terry here. I'm honest, C.C." He was afraid that another battle might take place. But at the same time, he felt in control of everything.
"Oh. Heh.. Funny. I bet you have a good relationship with him, better than yours with me."
"C.C.. You were small then. Very small. Terrance was already nearing at the end of the high school when you first came home. After he went to college and.. you didn't spend that much time together. I did. Then he disappeared. And the rest of the story..you know it."
"But you two do."
Michael approves. "Yeah.. But that doesn't mean I don't care about you and that I don't want us to start over." He smiled weakly. "You're my little brother..."
C.C said nothing more, leaning against the edge of the table, folding his hands. Mike just sighed slowly, turning his attention back to Terrance, who was sitting quietly on his feet, helped by the staff he had received by pity.
"Did you rest? You slept a lot."
"Yes.. I have no idea how I managed to sleep so much.."
"I have a suspicion." Michael told him with a discreet look at the ceiling.
