The girl had slept through the mound of snow, alone and miserable, after endless days and nights racing through the most rigid winter circumstances, until a deer came across her as her body was half-buried onto the snow pile.

The white-tailed deer had tried to wake her up by poking her in the face with its snout, and after a while, the girl had finally woken up, witnessing the deer standing right above her face.

"Good morning," said the deer.

"Good morning," said the girl courteously.

"What are you doing here?" the deer asked in concern.

"I was just biding my time in the snow." the girl replied, "Who are you?"

"I am a deer, my dear." the deer replied.

"Of all I've encountered, you seem to be the most friendly." the girl remarked.

"Will you be my friend?" the girl proposed.

"I cannot be your friend," the deer said, "Though I shall help you out for your needs."

"But the thing I need the most is a friend." the girl said.

"Then I wouldn't be able to meet your needs." the deer replied.

The girl sat in silence amid the snow before eventually collapsing back.
