Somehow I'd been struck by some sort of ill-fate and haven't been able to stop thinking about Jax since I saw that article. Though I had promised myself that I wouldn't go snooping into his life, I couldn't resist.

Now as I sat at my office desk, my head was buried in articles that I had dug up because apparently last night's research hadn't been enough.
It came as no surprise, finding out that Jax had inherited his fathers fortune and was now one of the youngest billionaires in the country. He was groomed to uphold such an expectation but what surprised me was the fact that he hadn't burned it to the ground.

By the looks of it, he had matured in more ways that one and was managing to build the chain of companies to higher heights and broadening their horizons. His return to LA was one of the reasons for that – an expansion that's would take the world by storm.

I huffed as I minimized the screen and stared at the blank wooden door to my office, knowing for sure that we would cross paths eventually. It was bound to happen; Jax's people were friends with my people and were both powerful. Whether by business or pleasure, I knew for sure that I would see his wretched face again – it was just a matter of when.

I tapped my fingers to the table and glanced at the small wrist watch on my hand. It was almost lunch time and I was dying to head out for some fresh air and get a cup of good coffee. Though I could walk out anytime given the fact that my dad owned the place, I knew he had me under tight watch ever since the rumors of me taking over started to float around.

People had much to say and they weren't the best as my dad would say. No one thought me capable enough to take over although I had completed my courses at Yale and had been trained about the business ever since I was no more than ten. I understood everything there was to know about the company but because I liked men and often flaunted myself with them, that seemed to discredit me. I was no more than a spoilt whore in the eyes of the public and while that may be true on some level, I still deserved my flowers.

A rapping came at the door and I put my thoughts to a halt. Before I had the chance to welcome whoever it was, the door was shoved open and an afro popped in.

A smile curved my face at the sight of my best friend. "It's lunchtime," she said with a grin.

I couldn't help but return it as I slammed my laptop shut and bounded from the chair with a tiny squeal. I grabbed my purse and hopped towards Grace who closed the door behind us.

"Where are we heading?" She asked as we walked to the elevator.

"Er... I just want some coffee and a really greasy burger," I moaned at the thought.

A perfectly arched brow shot up as Grace glanced at me. "What's gotten into you, girl?"

I huffed. "You know I only eat fast food when I'm stressed and right now, I am."

"Your dad nagging you about your lifestyle choices again?" She asked as she twisted her lips and shook her head.

"As always, but that isn't my biggest concern. Come on, I'll fill you in when we get there," I said as I pressed the button to the elevator that brought us down to the ground floor.

Fifteen minutes later we were in a place called Harvey's that was buzzing with the lunch hour rush. It was Grace's favorite fast food place and though I had only been here a few times, it was quickly becoming my favorite too.
