"I know what you're looking for, and I have it." I said loud and clear. My strength showed in my squared shoulders and steady resolve.

The boss observed me from behind a cherry oak desk. The furniture between us sent a warm tingle down my spine. He felt scared, that was good.

"So?"

The word was like a ringing blank. It shook my ears and my steady stance.

"So I propose a trade."

"And how do I know you won't screw me over?" He replied, buisness mood set in a thin-lipped smile.

I narrowed my eyes. I was a buisnessman too, and a legal one at that. "Because you have something I want. And, not to lay my cards down prematurely, I want it a lot."

Lowering my tone, I sent him a sharp look, my body shifting like a predator. "Don't be mistaken, this desire of mine does not make me weak in buisness. I propose a trade so we may both walk away satisfied, but mark my words, I'll get what I want. Whether you get anything in return is your choice."

Finishing my monologue, I straightened and fixed my eyes on his.

Grey and metal. Cold and observant.

"Enticing."

He ran his tongue over the tops of his teeth, making a grunting nose in the back of his throat before nodding slowly. "Fine, I'll tell you what, to be more open to buisness negotiations let's get you cleaned up and a dry. You're dripping dirty rainwater all over my study." His eyes were pointed, clear.

This wasn't hospitality. He wanted me in debt. He wanted me searched the minute I tried to shower and stripped from these wet clothes.

I smiled, still and viper-like. "I'd rather we talk buisness first. The sooner we come to an agreement, the sooner I can leave."

It went unspoken, that if he didn't take my offer I would die right then and there. There was no leaving. But I didn't see it fit to jinx my luck thus far, so I kept my trap shut.

A small smile chipped his lips up. "Fine. you're hired and dismissed." His words were gruff, eyebrows wriggling like worms in fresh wet earth.

I smiled polietly, clear cunning behind me and my intentions.
