Chapter 2

The light from the sun filtered through the blinds, causing Naomi Willis to stir in her sleep. She groaned and automatically placed her hand over her head that was throbbing with pain. She felt deep regret because she was experiencing the after effects of hanging out at her usual spot the night before. She was having a really good time with one too many drinks and she was pretty sure that her best friend Alx was the one that managed to get her home last night. She struggled to sit up and sighed, instantly regretting downing so much alcohol.

"Wake up sunshine! Girl it's time for you to go and use the computer! I know its Saturday but you need a freakin' job!" Alx exclaimed as she made her way over to where Naomi was sitting on the bed.

"Ugh, dude! I'm suffering from this dang hangover and you're the loudest idiot ever," she complained.

Alx handed Naomi a bottle of water and tried to help her stand. A wave of nausea hit her and she ran into the restroom where she threw up in the toilet.

Alx cringed and said, "Are you okay Naye? Seriously, I thought you said that you were going to stop doing this."

After she finished, Naomi got up and washed her face and brushed her teeth.

"Look MOM, I don't need you lecturing me right now. I know what I said but I just needed to let loose. Plus the guy that bought all my drinks was a total hottie," Naomi said.

She slowly made her way to her closet to choose her clothes for the day.

"Oh please girl. You need to grow up; I know you lost your job but since we share this apartment together, you're gonna have to put up or get out. I'm not joking," Alx said seriously.

Naomi sighed and tried to fight the tears that formed in her eyes, "Al, I know okay? I just...I'm a total mess right now. With my parents divorcing and leaving and me losing my job, I'm just feeling kinda lost right now."

She wiped her face and said, "I don't want you to think that you have a bum for a friend. I just need a moment to get myself together okay?"

Alx walked over to her and put her hands on her shoulder, "Sis, I got your back. And I'm going to do everything that I can to make sure that you get through this okay? How about we go to breakfast, it's still pretty early and then we both can research some jobs on my computer."

"Hey that sounds like a plan. I think I might just need some banana bread and some tea. I don't want anything too heavy right now. But first, I need to take some Excedrin or something for this headache," Naomi said as she walked to the medicine cabinet.

Alx smiled, "Okay sis, Starbucks it is! I'm gonna go get dressed. We'll leave in like 20 minutes."

Once the Excedrin kicked in, Naomi showered and got dressed. She made her way into the living room feeling way better than what she did when she first woke up.

"Alright Al, I'm ready to go!" she yelled and Alx came out of her room.

"Let's jet!" she said grabbing her keys.

In the car Alx turned her radio down and glanced at Naomi, "So...I wanted to talk to you about something."

"What is it Al? You didn't ruin another one of my dresses did you?" she asked suspiciously.

"No I haven't. Naye, you haven't been yourself for the past few months. And even though you ended things with Roger 3 years ago, you haven't even tried to move on," she said.

"So, is it wrong that I just want to be by myself right now?" Naomi said defensively.

"Absolutely not, but I feel like ever since then you've kinda closed yourself off from building some pretty awesome relationships whether it is friendly or romantic. Look, I'm no expert but I feel like you need to let go of whatever you are holding on to and open yourself up to friendship...or love."
