Opal Kōbon lives in Boston, Massachusetts where she works with her dad (Robert Kōbon) as a construction worker. Even though her dad says its no job for a lady all Opal just says is, "Well dad you are just gonna have to live with it because Im 18, and you know what that means. THAT IM A FULL FLEDGED TEENAGER!!!!". As you might have already guessed, Opal and her dad don't really get along as well as they used to (due to the death of Opal's mom). And anyway he doesn't really seem like he knows that she's even alive. And plus, he is on vacation a lot so they hardly see each other. But her, she's ok with it as long as he comes home once in a while. Now I am going to hand over the story to Opal herself.

I'm am cursed. I found that out the hard way. Now I will tell you how it came to be and how I became BEST friends with a 2 ghosts.

It all started on May 20th, which was bad luck for me because it was, unfortunately my birthday. My best friend (my real-life-human-friend) Valerie INSISTED that her present be opened last. Now me and Valerie have been best friends for a long time. We have known each other for 13 years and have a bond tighter than the skin that holds in my insides. She and I were having a sleepover that night and she ended up wanting me to open the present later at evening blah, blah, blah (since the party was in the afternoon at 1:00 pm.) So that night we stayed up laughing and giggling about boys and gossiping about the bullies at our school, Georgia and Cheryl . Man, they are some mean people. They are like boys except meaner, taller, and most of all very, very very, VERY annoying and disrespectful. Anyway, we were having so much fun that I forgot about opening the present.

The next day I sat down on the leathered, black couch and started opened the box. It had a big green and red bow on top of it and the wrapping was yellow (my favorite colors!). As I was undoing the ribbon, I saw stamped on Valerie's face, was a big, grim, devilish smile. As I continued unwrapping the the gift, her smile grew bigger and bigger and bigger. A chill ran down my back, pausing every time it skipped and passed my vertebrae. Still Valerie's face was twisted with glee. I got to the last part of the wrapping, and was surprised by what I saw. It was another layer of wrapping paper. Valerie pierced my ears with what she said, " Come on slow-poke! Open the present already I don't have all day!"
So I hurried so as not to make Valerie mad ( she can be very impatient at times ). As I unwrapped the second layer of paper, Valerie still kept staring at me with curios and mischievous eyes glowing with delight.
