The next day was a good school day for me. Even though Valerie was sick I still had a good time with a new student named Sam Alexander. I was his show-around-the-school person. We sat down together for lunch and chatted until our voices were hoarse. When Cheryl and Georgia passed the table we were sitting and laughing our socks off, and they did something that was very surprising and very non-surprising to me. They each bumped into me, Georgia, then Cheryl. As they bumped passed each turned around and held out a thumbs. And 'good job' sign. I couldn't tell that if the hand signal meant good job for hanging out with a boy or good job helping somebody out. Sam asked, "Who was that?" I replied with a whooping big grin (which was not intentional and I said it loud and clear with pride so that the twins could hear me), "Ohhhh. Them? There my friends. Some of the best!" I turned to look at the table at which they were sitting at. They were staring back smiling. I gave a warm smile back and turned again to face Sam. Those smiles that G&C had given me had made my day and I'm pretty sure I made their's too. I rushed back into my house literally crashing the door down and knocking the lamp over as I bolted through the kitchen and living room. Then I rammed my side into my bedroom door before finally reaching the phone to call Valerie. I had no idea why I used the house phone when mine was working fine. When Mrs. Allvan picked up I asked for Valerie and told her all about Cheryl, Georgia and Sam too. All she said was a faint, "Cool." Then the (I'm guessing) phone crashed to the floor and I heard Mrs. Allvan burst through the door and let out a blood curling scream. I didn't even dare listen a bit more. I didn't even care to ask if she was ok. I didn't even care to hang up. I picked up my car keys. Then I called Valerie's step dad. He said to meet him at the hospital. I called my dad and told him what happened about Valerie and told him that I was instructed by Mr. Allvan to head to the hospital and meet him there. All he said was, "I will be there by tomorrow morning ok sweetie. I'm booking a flight now. Tell them that I will be there." I was at the hospital. There was ambulances everywhere. Caution tape up all around. One stretcher carrying a 18 year old girl with her family. I sprang from the car and was almost immediately washed over with my own tears as well as some others. I ran and ran to were that stretcher was and thrust myself into Mr. Allvan's jolly belly.
