The Journey Begins

My mom woke me up the next morning with fear in her eyes. Grabbing myself and my brother she uttered these words silently "Don't make a sound". She pushed us into the closet and hid behind the bed.

I could hear alien shrieks coming from outside the room. My brother got scared and started crying, I tried consoling him because I couldn't risk his wailing revealing our hiding spot.

All of a sudden, the whole house was silent and the silence got louder and louder. "Aleksa, behind you", my dad screamed as one of the crumulons managed to get behind my mum. I didn't know what to do and at that point, I was getting scared myself. My mum immediately jumped away from the alien while my dad threw a chair at it. The military vet came into the room shooting the alien until it finally came down

"No time to waste, we have to leave now",  the vet said as she got my brother and I out of the closet. "We need to get out of here, fast" my mum said. We grabbed our things and proceeded out of there.  The vet led us to an underground tunnel which she said should lead us to a safe house. According to her, it was part of a government protocol for events like this.

40 mins into the tunnel my brother started complaining of cramps. I offered to carry him as we went on but then my dad said we needed to rest. "Uhm Miss military lady, we've been walking for minutes and this tunnel seems to be going no where. Could you at least let us rest...for all we know, we might be walking into an alien give with no sense of awareness. We don't even know your name so how could we even trust you, you might as well be some psychotic person, I mean you shot me on my thi...." And before my dad could finish, she jumped him with a knife saying "if I wanted to kill you, I would have left you with the Crumulons back at that house. Now would you shut up and let me try to save you life".

At that point she seemed really pissed and I tried to convince my dad that we could trust her but she said he was right and she wasn't sure if her safe house wasn't invaded by aliens. Then I did something I had not done in a long time, I spoke up, "Sure we don't know who to trust or what to  probably don't even know what to do ext but I'm sure of one thing and that is we need to stick together to survive. Now more than ever we need to have each other's backs and that means we have to work together to stay safe!!!. Safety should be our number 1 priority".

After 30 mins of rest we were on the move again  in this tunnel that seemed to not have an end. I looked at my wrist watch and the time read 10:55 showing that we were close to noon, which meant we have been in the tunnel for a long time.

Trying to make the place lively, my mother confusingly asked "So how did you know about the secret society of survivors, Miss ........", "Cooper" said the vet. "OK Miss Cooper, so how did you know about them Miss Cooper" asked my mum.  "I received a message on my radio that told me where to find them and how to find them" said the vet in an annoyed tone. The room seemed to be getting tense again so I said "why don't we just focus on getting out of here and when we're safe, we can talk all about our past lives".

I have to say, I have been talking a lot more often than I usually do and I think it boosted my self confidence by a lot. I was so confident, I felt like going to face the Crumulons on my own...of course I won't do it but I just felt alive and free like for the first time in a long time, I was in charge of my life.

We finally got to the safe house and the walls seemed to be made out of reinforced titanium. Miss Cooper told us to rest up cause we can't get to the safe secret society. It was best we went the next day at dawn and we all agreed. I went to over to thank Miss Cooper for keeping us safe and protecting us from the Crumulons and she gave me a hug saying "I'm just doing my job".

The next day, exactly at dawn we were on  the move again but this time we had supplies and Miss Cooper got more weapons from her safe house. This time we were more prepared than we had ever been. Ready to finish the journey.

While on the move, we heard a sound coming from the radio like someone was trying to reach us. We immediately stopped and tried to listen to whoever was at the other end. The voice calling from the radio sounded very familiar and I couldn't help but listen more cause it was just too familiar to ignore. We then heard a man's voice saying "please anyone, anyone out there....We live at 34, brochip street and we need your help please, anyone. Anyone at all, my family and I need your help ". That was when it hit me, that was the voice of Mr Joe Crimer, our neighbor who kicked us out of his home.

My dad became very furious and said we shouldn't help them but the vet, Miss Cooper said we should go back, "if I didn't help you people, you would have been dead by now so why wouldn't you do the same" Miss Cooper said. "They're the reason you had to help us in the first place, those people are mean and selfish, I'd rather die in the hands of the Crum....." Before he could finish, my mum said "Gerald, if we were still with them we would have been crying for help too, so drop your ego and let's go save some lives". So off we were going back to save the Crimers.
