Chapter Three

I went home and I felt great. Kate was already making dinner.

She made ham and eggs with toast. That's my favorite dish for dinner. I usually make dinner, but I'm grateful that I don't have to do anything after my long day at work.

That reminds me. "What did you do today Kate?"

"I was preparing for tomorrow's interview."

"Really?, I had no idea that you are going to interview. And where are you going?"

"To kindergarten," she said.

"Well, I wish you luck." At this moment, I didn't know what to say.

I kept thinking about who Kate owed money. I didn't want to say anything before her interview.

I helped her wash the dishes.

I couldn't sleep at night. I thought about how Michael called me by my name for the first time.

I went to work in the morning and saw a car in front of the restaurant. I've never seen him there. I walked into the restaurant and the first thing I saw was a young girl waiting at the bar.

"Hello, I'm sorry, but we will open in ten minutes. How did you get in here?", I asked her. I didn't want to offend her.

"Hello, I did not come here to order or sit down. I came here to see your boss."

Did I do something wrong?? I don't remember her!!! I have never met my boss before, should I call Michael?

I went to change into my work clothes. I walked out of the toilets and saw Michael talking to the girl.

I waited around the corner for a while before the girl left. She left exactly in time before I went to open.

Michael saw me and told me that I will finally meet my boss today.

I agreed, but deep down, I was scared.

I didn't even have to be scared, because I knew, I didn't do anything wrong.

A few hours later, I asked Michael who was that girl he was talking to.

"It was my sister. She brought me my lunch because I left it at home in the morning."

So now I know that he has a sister. He said that he left it at home in the morning so that means, he lives with his sister. Or that he visited her in the morning.

I asked him what is his sister like and he responded, "She is the only reason I'm still alive. She is the best person I know. She is the main reason I'm owning this restaurant..."

I love the way he talks about his sister. But there is something he has to explain.

"What does it mean when you said you own this restaurant?", I was shocked.

"Yeah, I wanted to tell you earlier, but I'm your boss."

"Ok, I wasn't expecting this Like at all." I had no words and I was blushing a bit. I could feel it.

"It's okay. Pretend like you don't know it. I don't want it to be weird between us."

He started to talk fast and it was kind of funny.

He saw me smiling for a moment because he started smiling too.

"It's okay. Let's pretend like I already knew, fine?" I asked him because it started to be embarrassing.

"Yeah, can I get you something to drink?, I'll pay."

"Only if you get something with me," I replayed.

We both had a glass of orange juice with ice. I enjoyed it.

After lunch, I went home to change my apron because I accidentally spilled juice on myself.

Only I can do that.

Kate had just returned from an interview and looked excited. I asked her how it turned out and what it was like and she immediately started telling me everything.  She was excited about it, but I had to go back to work.

I told her that when I arrive home from work, she would tell me all this in detail and she agreed.

There were fifteen minutes left until the end of the shift, but when Michael and I talked, it was like a few seconds. Every time you're with someone you love and have fun with, the hours go by like minutes.

Sometimes I would like to have a time machine and experience everything again or change something.

I already had dinner ready at home. Kate told me everything she had experienced today and how it turned out. I was glad for her.

"Anne, I still can't believe it. They hired me and I'm getting on tomorrow morning."

"I am so happy for you. You deserve it."
