Korie stares at the building address displayed on her phone screen, scratching the skin on the side of her thumb while she nibbles at her lip. The engine runs, as if telling her to finally drive out of her apartment complex parking lot.
She takes a long, deep breath, setting her phone down and putting her hands on the wheel, backing out and driving into the street.
The drive feels explicitly long, Korie's nails steadily thumping against the leather on her steering wheel, teeth chewing on the edge of her bottom lip. Korie's car sits in the building parking lot. As she collects her things and opens the car door she stops in her tracks, various thoughts begin to fill her head.
'What if you find out you're really the problem?'
'He's going to tell you that you don't deserve to see your daughter.'
'Devon's never gonna to love a woman as weak as you'
'Paris is better off without an addict for a mother.'
'You're pathetic.'
Her jaw tightens, and her hand grips to her purse strap, breath becoming heavy, "You're doing this for your marriage, you're doing this for your family," Taking a deep breath she steps out of her car and walks into the building.
A chilling breeze hits her skin as she walks into the fairly empty room. Korie walks up to the receptionists' desk, a fairly tall woman sits in front of her, a warm smile on her face as she greets Korie.
"Hello, are you here to schedule an appointment or do you have one already?"
"I have one." The woman looks through her computer for a short second before quickly looking back up.
"Oh Mrs. Ross! You're right on time!" The woman stands up from her seat, walking around the receptionsts' desk, "Please follow me."
Korie follows behind the taller woman, focused on the sound of the women's heels clicking against the floor, not really paying much attention to where she's being taken. As the clicking subdues Korie pulls herself back into reality, now faced with a dark oak wood door.
"Just in here Mrs. Ross." Korie nods, her hands hovering over the door handle. The woman looks at her with understanding, "It's normal to feel nervous, but you've made it this far, you might as well give it a shot."
Korie takes a deep breath, slowly opening the door. The smell of cinnamon meeting her in a warm embrace. Her eyes fall on a figure sitting in a chair across the room. The man seems to be going over a file, eyes scanning through the paper vigorously, taking a moment every now and then to push his metal framed glasses up on his nose, jet black hair curled and slightly messy, so lost in his work he doesn't seem to realize Korie's presence.
She clears her throat, attracting his attention, "Oh, my apologies I didn't hear you enter in. Please sit down."
Korie sits down on the couch in front of her, facing the unfamiliar man. Her hand stays firm on the strap of her purse, her body closed in together. Sensing the tension, the therapist sets his notepad down on his lap, sitting up in his chair and giving her a comforting smile, "Hello Mrs.Ross, my name is Taehyung Kim. I believe this is your first session with me, correct?" Korie nods, "Okay, well like I said, my name is Taehyung, I've been a licensed therapist for about 5 years now. Everything that you say in this room stays in this room, it's completely confidential and I can and will not discuss what goes on in our sessions with anyone outside of you or me, however I am a mandated reporter. This means if I suspect there is any child, elder or adult dependent abuse going on I must report that to the proper authorities. I know your paperwork was filled out online so I should have that in the system soon but I just want to make sure you hear this information from me in person, is this alright with you?"
