The smell of gasoline. The sound of roaring engines and crowds cheering, that's all that you could hear when you and your friend arrived at the race. The moment you started you walking with her dragging you along you immediately wanted to stop and run away, hating the feeling of loud noises, and scary-looking people with them betting their life on whoever wins this race.
"My bet is on "King"! He's here and all of you could cry back to your mama's!" One boy shouted as his opinion got people screaming even more in agreement.
Eyebrows meeting together in confusion from their heated debate on who will win made you whisper something to your friend, Shayla.
"King? Who?" You asked once she stopped walking once she spotted a perfect spot on the bleachers, the perfect view to see everything and it's so close to the road as well.
"You don't know him? Oh my god! You're missing out!" She began, lightly hitting your shoulder.
"Well, I'm not the type of person to be updated on street racing! I don't even come and watch them unlike you!" You returned, hugging yourself when a sudden brush of cold wind came passing by.
The night was deep but people were still alive from this event, "See that boy over there? The one that's leaning on a car?" She pointed out as for you to follow her pointed gaze.
There's some distance between the two of you but you can see who she's mentioning, your eyes stared at a boy that's leaning his back on his Honda Civic Si, both hands inside his pockets as he was busy talking to his friend beside him. Then suddenly he looked at the bleachers, he looked at you.
Out of all the people crowding the area he met your eyes, his sharp jaw on full display. He broke the gaze first and you saw how he muttered something that made his friend laugh beside him and hit his arm playfully.
"That's the "King of the Road" he always wins every race he's in. He. Always. Wins" Shayla finished and smirked when she saw your surprised face, she laughed and joined the screaming.
"Let's go!!" She began.
"You better win this King!!" Someone joined in.
And soon after that, you were clinging to Shayla's arm after hearing that the race was starting, you're scared of course. It's your first time watching a street race or illegal racing with both of your eyes and the fact that some people don't seem to care if someone gets hurt or injured made you more nervous.
"Y/n stop being such a baby and enjoy this with me," Shayla said and took your grip around her arm to intertwine it with hers as she raised it in the air and continued screaming.
