"Holy shit, Iris!" Steve jumped in surprise, not expecting to see the girl sitting on the hood of his car at 7am. She perked up at his voice, playing with her walkman in her hands."Good morning, dingus." Iris said back, laughing slightly. "C'mon, don't want to be late picking up Nance!"
"Yeah, yeah whatever." He sighed, climbing into the driver's seat, a grin on his face.
Iris, already sitting in the back, rummaged through the glove compartment, leaning over the passenger seat. Steve looked at her, waiting for her to find whatever she was looking for.
"What-what are you even-"
"Shush, dickwad." Iris found the cassette she was looking for, putting it in the player before leaning back.
"You're so weird." Steve sighed, pulling out of the driveway as Queen began to play through the speakers.
"You say that a lot."
The car ride to the Wheeler's was filled with typical conversation and jokes between the two. From middle school to their senior year, they had stayed close. They were best friends, closer than they were with any other person. And although he'd never admit it out loud, that included Nancy.
There was an unspoken connection between Iris and Steve, and everyone was aware of it. Which is why originally, Nancy and Iris really didn't get along. But, as time went by, Nancy started to see that she didn't have anything to worry about.
Or maybe part of her just stopped caring.
As Steve pulled into the driveway, Nancy hurriedly walked out, Mike trailing behind her shortly. Iris waved to him, rolling down the window as Nancy got in the passenger seat. The couple said their good mornings, but it was white noise to Iris.
"Hey Nance," She said, not noticing she interrupted Steve. "Is your brother alright?"
"Uh, yeah?" Nancy turned to her, confusion written on her face. "Why?"
"He just looks like he's worried about something." Iris shrugged.
Nancy and Steve shared a look, not going unnoticed by Iris. "Oh my god, I hate it when you guys do that!" She groaned.
Iris had her suspicions on the couple. It felt like all her friends knew something she didn't, and it was driving her crazy. She knew everything started changing after Will (one of the boys in the group that always came into the arcade she worked at) went missing.
