We hadn't been in the car for more than six minutes before my younger brother, Carson, started complaining about his need to use the bathroom.

"Why didn't you use the bathroom before we left, dipshit." I say with my head leaning against the glass, looking at my town for the last time before I'm gone for months.

"Language." My mother says, not even looking up from the book she was reading.

My mother and I had a strange relationship to say the least. I loved her more than anyone in the world, but we definitely had our fair share of fights. She would get mad at me for smoking pot, going out with boys, and all the other normal things teenagers do. At least, I always said it was normal in my mind. Maybe just to justify my actions.

"Why don't you keep your mouth shut, Hailey." Carson says, turning to look at me.

I stick my tongue out at him, and he does the same to me.

Carson was my best friend, besides Paige of course. He had just turned sixteen two months ago, so he was only two years younger than me. Being so close in age is what helped us get along so well. He understood what I was going through with mom.

"We're here!" My dad says as the car rolls to a stop outside of what looks like a giant mansion.

"Holy shit," I whisper under my breath as I take in the sight before me.

"Holy shit is right." My brother says to me with a grin on his face.

We both look at each other before jumping out of the car, running up to the mansion I get to call my home this summer.

"Hey! It wouldn't hurt for you kids to grab a bag." My father says. But we both ignore him, swinging the door open to the house.

As we walk in, the first thing we see is two giant spiral staircases leading up to a platform.

My brother automatically runs up the stairs, calling out about him getting the best room. But I'm too absorbed in the sight before my eyes to chase after him.

I look around seeing pictures and paintings of water, dolphins, whales, and endless beautiful scenes. There's tables with shells sitting on them, chairs with starfish pillows, and the walls are painted a light blue color. My favorite.

"This place is super nice." My brother says from the platform above me. "I picked out my room, come pick out yours."

I walk up the stairs to find two hallways going left and right. I choose to turn left, walking down the hall, admiring all the paintings hanging on the walls.

I suddenly come up to a door on my right and I open it, being met with the most beautiful room I've ever seen.

I look around seeing a bed with a white comforter thrown on it. The room has a white and gold theme to it.

I walk over to the desk in the corner of the room next to the window. I pick up a solid gold starfish, but as I turn my head to look out the window, I almost drop it at the sight in front of me.

Looking out the window, I see the beach in front of me. Sand as white as snow and the ocean clear as glass and as blue as the walls of the house.

I hear a knock on my door. I turn around to see my mother leaning against the wooden door frame, staring out the window with the same expression on her face as me.

"It's beautiful isn't it?" My mother says, her eyes slowly moving over to meet mine.

"It's incredible mom. Maybe I should become a neurosurgeon like Uncle Bobby." I say with a giggle. "Where is he anyways?"

"I texted him." My mom answers. "Said he was down at the marina checking up on his baby."

Uncle Bobby is my mom's brother. A few years older than her. He's the goofiest guy you'll ever meet. He works at a prestigious hospital in Washington. With all the money he was making, he decided to buy a boat and a beach house this summer to share with his family.

"Come help with the bags." My mom says as she leaves my room.

"Okay." I answer, looking at the view outside my window one more time before walking out.
