Chapter 3

"Your majesty..." said Bonfire, bowing his head. Queen Blister's eyes seemed to be endless pits of black void, holding cruelty and darkness. Arid stood there, frozen in shock. The others bowed their heads, probably wondering what awful things the cruel queen would do now that she was aware of their friendship with the princess. "M-mother-" Arid stammered. "Don't call me that you rat-'' Blister snarled. "I'm sorry your majesty..." Arid said quietly, hiding her burning hatred for her mother. She growled under her breath and turned her black eyes to the floor, wishing she curl into a ball of flame and burn her mother to ashes. I HATE YOU! The words kept rushing through her head, over and over, running the well-worn track of hatred. Her mother was silent and unmoving. It was spine chilling to watch her pitch-black eyes dart around the room. "You two, to your servants' quarters." Queen Blister snapped. "Yes, your highness." Jackel mumbled, leading Hyena with him.  "As for you Skywing..." She continued. "I've noticed my daughter... is not listening enough... I think, your life... has value to her..." Arid's heart started to race, and she blurted, "He means nothing to me!" Blister smiled wickedly, "Then you won't mind if I do... THIS!" Blister racked her claws over Bonfire's chest. He roared in pain and fury. "Bonfire!" Arid shrieked as she ran up to him. Arid curled up next to him and sobbed into his wings. "You're a monster..." she yelled, her eyes full of tears. Arid immediately leaped onto Blister, the queen roaring under her claws. "You can't overpower me dragonet!" She roared, throwing Arid to the ground. She snarled as Blister pinned her to the ground. "I'm not going to kill you, but maybe this will teach you to listen!" Blister dug her claws into Arid's neck. She shrieked in pain. Blister then slashed her claws across her right eye. Arid roared, shrieking in pain. She withered under her mother's claws, but finally gave in to the pain. As soon as Arid stopped trying, she was dropped into a dark pit of nothing-ness.
