Side Effects

Yuu wakes up covered in sweat and looks around for Grim, Neige, or Chris, her skin stinging like she's ablaze, making her stumble out of bed, bursting into the hallway. Yuu feels sticky as her body has sweat pouring out of every crevice and crack of Yuu's body, soaking her pajamas. She struggles to breathe, and her breath becomes steam as her body gets hotter. Yuu's tongue starts to dry along with her eyes, and she runs to the beach. Yuu jumps into the ocean, and her body feels relief for a moment. Suddenly, her head burns and her hair becomes blue flames.

"AAAAHHHH!" Yuu screams, her mouth and lungs filling up with water.

Yuu swims to the shore erratically and hits her head on the sand. She thrashes on the sand and rips off her clothes, trying to extinguish herself. Idia and Ortho find Yuu and run to her to calm her down.

"Yuu, calm down! You'll only make it worse if you keep panicking!" Idia exclaims, holding Yuu still. "It's fine! It'll all be fine!"

"Onii-chan, do you want to take her to your lab?" Ortho asks, scanning Yuu's body.

"Yes! Something should be in there to help her! Yuu, please calm down," Idia answers, shaking Yuu's body and her breathing becoming short. "Breathe, Yuu! Breathe!"

Yuu's body goes still, and her body emits steam. Her hair returns to normal, and her eyes have a glazed look on them. Smoke comes out of Yuu's mouth as if she were a dragon, and Idia feels for Yuu's pulse.

"Crap! Yuu, don't die on me again!" Idia screams, getting ready to do CPR. "Ortho, play Stayin Alive!"

Idia does five compressions on Yuu's chest and puts his mouth on hers, breathing into Yuu.

Yuu takes a breath, and Idia takes a sigh of relief.

"I'm sorry, I'm so, so, sorry. I'll take care of you properly this time," Idia cries, crying on Yuu's shoulder.

A warm, blue sea envelopes Yuu as she sinks into the water. Air bubbles leave Yuu's mouth, and a giant pair of arms hug Yuu.

"There's something strange about you. You're not of this world, but you have my family's curse," A man's voice says, cradling Yuu like a baby. "Idia did this, didn't he? He's truly becoming a Dr. Frankenstein."

Yuu hears herself breathe, and her body floats back to the surface. Yuu's eyes flutter open, and see blue butterflies flying around her.

"They're digital," Yuu says as she touches a butterfly that goes through her hand.

"I thought you would like them," Idia says, walking into his room. "I have jellyfish holograms if you want to switch to that."

"What did you do to me?" Yuu asks, looking at her purple lips. "Did you spread your curse to me?"

"...I saved you, didn't I? It worked, but I didn't expect this," Idia says, sitting next to Yuu.

"Idia, you can't do this to people! You had no right to experiment on my body like that!" Yuu yells, throwing off Idia's bed covers.

"You were dead! I didn't want you to die from overblot again!" Idia yells back. "I mean, come on! You aren't even supposed to be able to overblot in the first place! I wasn't taking any risks!"

"You've made me into a monster! I can't feel anger or sadness anymore without running the risk of overblotting! When I was a human, I could at least be angry all I wanted without dying immediately. Now I'm forced into being happy or emotionless 24/7!" Yuu screams, running her hands through her hair.

"Really? If that's the case, then you should have overblotted again. But you're still here, in your human form, yelling at me," Idia points out, crossing his arms.

"...you probably did something to me again," Yuu replies, realizing her skin is still the same.

"I'm sorry is all I can say. I'll be in the cafeteria if you want me," Idia softly says, walking out of his room.

Yuu sighs and flops onto Idia's bed, hugging a soft pillow. A glint of light comes from an open drawer, and Yuu sticks her hand inside to grab a silver journal.

"Project Metamorphosis?" Yuu asks, looking at the picture of a girl in a cocoon.

Yuu opens the journal and finds a picture of her, Ace, Deuce, and Cater. She reads the paragraph below it and almost cries.

For anyone reading this, the girl in the picture is Yuu. She's not from this world, but she means something to me. That's why as of March 23rd, 2022, I'm bringing Yuu back from the dead no matter what it takes. I am going to fix my mistake. Currently, Yuu is in a tube and going through the beginning of the revitalization process.

Yuu turns the page and reads the next entry.

SUCCESS! Yuu can be taken off life support! She's breathing on her own and even showing increased brain activity! The doctors say she'll be awake someday!

Yuu keeps flipping through pages until she reaches the most recent one.

The overblot damaged Yuu's heart. The doctors filled her tube with a weird golden liquid. I call it ambrosia, but they say it comes from a flower in another kingdom. Apparently, it dropped from the sun.The effects on Yuu's body were immediate.

April 2nd, 2022

The "Ambrosia" gave Yuu some odd side effects like accelerated hair growth and slowing aging. Her brain activity increased dramatically, and she's even speaking in her sleep. She keeps mentioning someone named Alice. On the other hand, I've decided to search into the cause of Yuu's overblot. I haven't gotten any results yet, but I have a theory that Yuu absorbs magical energy radiating off of everyone. Her overblot may be a type of radiation poisoning. To stop possible radiation poisoning, I've given Yuu my family curse to combat the overblot. She should have a magical immune system, in a way.

April 6th, 2022

Chris and Leon are helpful in discussing other worldly human biology. Humans from their world don't have the type of magic we do. The doctors are telling me Yuu's awake! Her transformation is complete! POGGERS, MAN!

Yuu runs out of the room and into the cafeteria. She throws open the doors, and sees Idia eating by himself with a miserable look on his face.

"Idia!" Yuu screams, startling Idia. "I know everything!"
