003 the bonfire
Caroline had always wondered what it felt like to truly fall. For the ground become what was feared rather than what was safe. She wondered what was more scary, falling or landing.
She wanted to know if anyone who had truly fallen had done the unexpected and flew. If they changed the course of their life by deciding to stop falling.
Part of her wondered why she thought about things like this. Why her mind always went back to this idea when she was in complete silence. She also wondered if those who fall ever truly land. Whether or not they just keep going forever and ever never realizing they've been gone since the moment they left the ground.
It was a weird thought, Caroline knew that. But it was one that intrigued her. Because no one truly knows what it feels like to fall like that until they do it, and that doesn't usually end well.
But that wasn't the only thought that clouded her mind. She often wondered what it would be like to be with the stars. If when people said the stars called to them it was actually true, or if they were just lonely. Caroline didn't have many quiet moments, but the ones she did usually ended with her thinking about things like this.
"Hey, you ready for the movie? The moms are almost ready." Mags questioned, peaking her head into the bathroom. Caroline rubbed her eyes, turning towards her sister. "Change of plans, actually. Avery asked if we could join her at the beach bonfire tonight."
Mags frowned. "You mean she asked you?" Caroline turned fully towards her sister. "Us, Mags. Avery likes you." Mags sighed. "But we always watch a movie with Belly and the moms on the first night." Caroline bit her lip. "I mean... yeah, exactly. We can always watch a movie with them another night."
Mags didn't respond, biting her lip. Caroline moved next to her sister, wrapping an arm around her shoulders. "You can stay and watch the movie if you really don't want to go. Or we don't even have to go for long, just pop over say hello to a few people and then leave." Mags looked at her sister and groaned a bit at the excited look the younger one had on her face. "I hate you, fine. I'll let them know that we're going out."
"Okay." Caroline replied with a smile, turning towards the mirror. She bit the inside of her cheek, sighing as she stared at herself. Something just felt off with her mood and Caroline knew that if she distracted herself she could get over it. That's what the bonfire would truly be, a much needed distraction.
"Hey, I heard you're going to the bonfire?" Belly questioned, poking her head out of her room. Caroline turned her attention to the girl who's hair was wet and messy from a night swim. "Oh did you now?" Belly laughed a bit, stepping out of her room. "Can I come? The guys said no when I asked them."
