On her second day in China, [Name] woke up early, quickly showered, and joined her auntie for breakfast. The conversation turned to Aunt inability to accompany [Name] on her first day.
"[Name], I'm afraid I won't be able to accompany you today," Aunt explained, her voice filled with regret.
"Why? Early work?" [Name] inquired, a hint of disappointment in her tone. Aunt nodded in response, her eyes conveying both apology and reassurance.
[Name] let out a sigh and nodded understandingly. "I understand, Auntie. I can handle myself," she assured her.
"Thank you, [Name]. I'll see you at dinner, alright?" Aunt remarked as she walked out of the house, leaving [Name] to finish her breakfast alone.
With a sense of determination, [Name] cleared the table, washed the dishes, and tidied up the apartment.
As she made her way to the door, she coincidentally ran into Auntie Sherry and Dre, who were about to leave.
"Good morning, Aunt Sherry, Dre," [Name] greeted them warmly, falling into step beside them. She tapped Dre on the shoulder and whispered, "How are you?" He nodded in response, and [Name] noticed that his eyes were slightly smeared with makeup.
"Black eye?" she asked, her eyes widening in concern. Dre's expression turned sheepish, and [Name] couldn't help but burst into laughter.
"Don't laugh," he snarled, trying to maintain a serious demeanor. But [Name] couldn't hold back her amusement.
"Do you want me to go and murder that git?" she teased, a mischievous glint in her eyes. Dre playfully nudged her, their camaraderie shining through.
The walk to school was uneventful, and Aunt Sherry didn't seem bothered by Dre's bruised eye. As they reached the entrance of the school, they noticed a Chinese woman dressed in formal attire waiting for them.
"Ms. Po?" Aunt Sherry inquired, and the woman smiled warmly. "Ms. Parker, we've been waiting for you," she confirmed.
Dre's gaze wandered around, his brow twitching slightly, before he redirected his attention to Aunt Sherry and Ms. Po.
