Prologue
With human eyes
And ghostly skin,
The beast will come
From hate and sin.
Devour up
The souls of pain
Kill the living
So death with reign.
But in the maskers home,
Is where the flower lies
Unless it is removed
By the villain’s tides.
And what you want
Could just be;
Right under your nose
Where you can’t see.
So forward backwards
And side to side
Where you should be going
You’ll leave behind.

The hallway was just as crowded as ever as all the many students of Billings High school met up with their friends and talked excitedly about the summer vacation coming up quickly ahead of them. Lockers slammed shut and the seniors ran down the hallways throwing confetti and toilet paper and silly string and all that random stuff chanting and cheering. Even though they had a month of school left, it was almost like they were a little too eager for their own good. Ready to leave high school in the dust behind them while the juniors, sophomores and freshman watched them with envy.
Avrie herself would have been one of the girls being an idiot and preparing her goodbyes to high school as well before graduation in a few weeks and preparing for college. But personally she really didn’t feel like making a fool of herself.
She stood in front of her locker quietly pushing some books for study and homework she probably wouldn’t even do until the last minute into her backpack. She still didn’t get why she always got so much freaking homework on Fridays. Weekends should be for relaxation right? Not reading on the French and Indian war and Salem witch trials, catching up on huckleberry Finn and all that stuff.
But watching the commotion around her Avrie felt a tinge of sadness with the fact that soon she would be leaving high school for ever soon. She had gotten to learn how to like school recently and was working a lot harder. It was also a lot easier now that her eyesight was a whole lot better. She was also completely clueless on whether she was even going to go to college or not. She really didn’t need a job or a home here. She just needed a place to sleep, because she already had a life in Telenary. A world beyond Earth that was like a place from a fairy tale, it was full of giant animals, magic, friends, family and everything she had ever needed or wanted. And a college degree wasn’t really needed there.
Unfortunately Avrie was still trying to find a way to stay in Telenary for good, but she could only be there when she could hypnotize herself while she was sleeping, so it wasn’t that often. She sighed and pulled out her notebook and dropped that into her backpack too, then zipped it up and slung it over her shoulder.
“Hey beautiful.” A voice greeted, she gave a small grin and swung her locker door shut, standing behind it was Skylar. He was one of those guys at this school who could easily pretend to be a teacher. A good looking teacher.
He was tall and muscular with light brown hair that he usually kept in an untidy fohawk (that’s what everyone else called it anyway.) that was pretty attractive. He reminded her a bit of a younger version of Hatter. Slade’s best friend and father like figure. He always had a playful grin on his face, stone hard eyes, and thick eyebrows. He was lazy, never did his school work, and loved nothing more than good food.
