Hi my name is Helen I am 26 years old and I suffer from a skin condition called Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a painful, long-term skin condition that causes abscesses and scarring on the skin. The exact cause of hidradenitis suppurativa is unknown, but it occurs near hair follicles where there are sweat glands, usually around the groin, bottom, breasts and armpits. Where it affects me in my armpits and across my chest it is extremely painful and there's no cure for it.
I've been suffering from the conditions since I was 19 when I found a lump under my left arm and then a year later I found another lump under my right armpit which i needed surgeryon both arms.
It took me closest 7 years to see a dermatologist since then it's gotten a lot worse so now I'm looking at plastic surgery to fix my problem and I'm petrified it was affect my relationship with me and my boyfriend he was the one who encouraged me to write this he says I'm strong and brave he says if he had this condition he would not be here if he was in my situation he sees me everyday in pain and I'm just afraid that he will leave me, getting in and out of bed is painful getting dressed bending down or doing everything is very agonising I am incredibly tired that is one of the side effects of my condition.
I hope writing this will spread the awareness of hs and for all the people who suffer
