The words of Logan had certainly been to put me in my place, but it only made my blood boil and tempted a growl from my chest. I couldn't do that though, not without drawing any more attention to myself.

Apparently I was already being watched because of my earlier incident. Was that why I had been put into this group in the first place?

No, it couldn't be. The groups had been assigned before my little outburst with the captain. My tattoo had already been blue before then. Why though? What about me had been so special before I had been so bold as to challenge a ranked member of the pack?

Anders.

For the third time that day, a familiar face passed through my thoughts. His soft fluffy chestnut brown colored hair and his sharp amber eyes that seemed to cut away into my soul and take everything there that belonged to me.

Then there was his grin, the sickeningly sweet grin that he used to get whatever he wanted, both from me and from the alphas of the other packs.

Nothing about Anders was good, and his ambitions far out stretched his influence and the power he had in the Packlands.

A horrible part of me was almost concerned for him. How would he last without me? How many foolish choices would he make without me right there to tell him that it would result in the end of his pack?

That was why I had been chosen for the blue group. Not because I had any amazing ability or strength, but because I had been close to another alpha. Not only was he just another lapha, but he was a notoriously aggressive and harsh alpha. A young wolf looking to prove himself and make a kind of name for himself after the passing of his father the alpha before him.

I looked over to Logan to see him looking at , as though he was trying to figure out what I was thinking. As soon as he realized I was looking at him, he lifted his lips and sent me a grin of his own.

My heart jumped in my chest and I quickly looked away, my gaze landing on the stage that was in front of me. I didn't have long to wonder about what could possibly be going on there as a familiar blonde haired man climbed the stairs and stood at the podium that had been placed there.

Captain Sorrenson.

His bright green colored eyes seemed to glow in the half light, and his uniform looked as perfect and pressed as it had on the bus, and at the drop off grounds.

A happy grin crossed his face as he looked out at all of us. "Welcome to the pack of New Blood. No need to to look so stiff and startled. We aren't looking to bite you quite yet. If anything we're going to give you a moment to settle down and get comfortable with your new home."

His words seemed to comfort many of the nervous new recruits around me, but it only made me more cautious of him. Time to settle in didn't really seem like something I was going to be gifted.

It just wouldn't make sense to do that.

Zeke looked down at me with a small confused frown that told me he was thinking the same thing. We both knew that the captain wasn't telling the truth. Something was about to happen, and we needed to be on our toes and ready for it.

The Captain walked back and forth across the stage as he moved to say his next words. All I could see was his handsome gold and grey uniform. I studied the way the golden buttons glowed in the moonlight.

Anything to distract myself from the dread that was building in my gut.

I curled and uncurled my fingers to try and ease the anxiety that was building inside. Since I was so focused on how stressed I was becoming, I nearly almost zoned out and missed the next thing that the Captain said.
