Ava

"Hey, Ava, can you come here a minute?"

Ava ran down the stairs loudly. She was in her new red rain boots. She had gotten them that afternoon.

She skidded in the kitchen to shed mom. Than she saw the boy.

"This is Kyle," her mother said. "He and his family just moved here. Do you want to say hi?"

Ava studied Kyle. She wasn't so sure about this boy. The girls in her kindergarten chased them on the playground. Finally, she spoke.

"Do you have cooties?" she asked, crossing her arms.

"Ava!" cried her mother, shocked. Her straight blonde hair glittered in the sun. Ava liked that.

Kyle hid behind his mother. Ava noticed her hair was brown, the same color as hers. "Um... I don't think so," Kyle's mom's back said.

Ava grinned. "Great!" she said. "Let's go play with my stuffed animals. I have to introduce then to you." When Kyle didn't move, she added, "I have to. They'll get mad if a stranger comes in my room."

Ava and Kyle stumbled up to her room, Kyle apparently forgetting his shyness. And as the moms talked, a friendship was formed. A friendship that would last forever. Or so they thought.
