VINCENT||

Once you do this there is no going back-

I left.

I left with my family, and now we're going to the estate in Rome. Nothing but silence filled the car as we were driving. Envy hasn't spoken to me since I got in the car. "Can you say something? You're never this quiet," I looked at her.

"What do you want me to say, Vincent?" She made a left turn. "That I didn't make a mistake, something?" Anything, I feel like I just lost the one good thing in my life. I stared at her, her emotions were blank for a moment.

"You left her, Vincent. You actually left her! What is she going to think when she wakes up?" She sighed. "I know you don't want her to get involved, but she didn't deserve that."

"I don't want to hurt her Envy, I just want to keep her safe." "Was this Ace's idea? Keeping her safe?" "We both agreed." "You better know what you're doing." We drove up to the estate, after they checked us and the car, they let us through. We got out of the car and walked up to the doors.

We walked in. "Welcome home, Mr. Greyson."

*****

I heard a knock on the door, "Come in." Ace walked in. "Why is Envy acting off?" Ace spoke. "She's not happy with us right now," I sighed. "She'll get over it, hopefully. Mom just got back, she wants to talk." I nodded my head as he walked out.

I walked down the hallway and walked in my mother's office. It looks the same, a mix of gold, white and grey interior. "Have a seat son," she said without looking at me, I sat down. "I had a talk with Envy, she agreed to let you work in the office with her." She continued to work on her laptop.

"She's not very happy with you right now, why?" "I made a bad decision." "I see," she looked up from her laptop. "Will it interfere with anything?" Her emotions were blank. "No, it won't." "Good, you'll start working tomorrow. You're dismissed." I got up. "And Vincent." I looked at her. "Don't fuck up my line of work," she smiled. I nodded my head and walked out.

I took a deep breath as I saw Envy walking down the hallway. "Envy, wait!" I walked up to her, she turned to me. "If it's not about work, I don't want to talk," she said bluntly. "Ok then let's talk about work, can you give me a layout of everything?" "Walk with me." It was silent while we walked down the hallway. We walked into her office, I closed the doors behind us and took a seat.

She leaned against her desk. "Mom takes care of the corporation. We keep track of income, shipments, deals, and whatever else mom wants." "What will I be doing?" "Income, with me." "And Ace?" "He works with dad, as do I. Is there anything else?" "No but Envy." "Hm?" "Will I ever go back?" "To your old life?" I nodded my head.

"Once you're in this 'business' there's no going back. Dad agreed to let whoever you were seeing out of this as long as you came back with us. If he senses any hesitation from you, he'll start looking." We heard a knock on the door. "Come in." Ace walked in, "Athena's here," he spoke.

"Why?" Envy sighed. "She has something for Vincent." I got up, "Where is she?" "In the living room." I walked out of the office and went downstairs. "Why are you here?" I walked in the living room. "I can't visit my husband?" She pouted. "We're over Athena." "I don't think so," she smiled and took an envelope out of her bag. She handed it to me.

I opened it, it was pictures of Mila. "Is this supposed to mean something?" "Keep looking," she smiled. There were pictures of me and her, together. "Since these don't mean anything to you, I can give them to your father, right?" "What do you want, Athena?" "You know he told me about the good news, you working for the family. I'm happy for you."

"Athena!" "Fine," she rolled her eyes. "Stay with me. Your father won't get these pictures, and my parents will stay happy," she ran her hand down my arm. "And if I don't?" I smacked her hand off. "Your father needs my family, it's a partnership. They won't be too happy to know that their precious daughter is upset. As a bonus this girl might just get herself killed," she pouted.

"It's your choice, we can talk about this more later. My parents are coming over for dinner," she put the envelope in her purse. "You should get ready," she walked away.

*****

"She has what?" Ace spoke. "There's pictures of me and Mila together, but mostly Mila." "How did she get them?" Envy spoke. "I don't know." "Let's just play nice for this dinner," Ace sighed. "Play nice? Oh of course, it will be nice when my knife ends up across the table," Envy smiled. "Envy we can't do anything, not right now," Ace looked at her.

"Why are you so calm when it comes to Athena, Ace?" Envy glared at him. "I just don't want to get Mila killed, or get Vincent hurt. I could care less about Athena." "Good." "You two can argue later, let's just go," I pinched the bridge of my nose. "Fine," they both agreed.

We all sat down in the dining room, my mother and father siting at the heads of the table. Ace, Athena, and her father sitting across from me, Envy and Athena's mother sitting next to me.

"I'm so happy that you all could make it," my mother smiled through her sarcastic tone. "Of course, when we got the invitation from Mr. Greyson we couldn't stay no," Athena's mother smiled.

"John, I'm surprised that the oldest hasn't gotten married yet," Athena's father looked at mine. "Ah, she will." They both clicked their glasses together. "Do I look like an object to you Nathan?" Envy sipped her whiskey. "E-Excuse me," he almost choked on his drink. "Where is your respect?"

"She's not talking to anyone that deserves to be respected," Ace spoke. "Envy! Ace!" My father glared at them. "I won't sit here and act like I didn't hear what he said. Do you have a problem with that, dad?" Her eyes narrowed. "Can you control your children?" Athena's mom spoke.

"You should be the last person commenting," I spoke. "Excuse me? Our daughter is a lovely person." "He didn't say that she wasn't, you must be trying to convince yourself of something," my mother smiled. "Enough! Nathan, Adrian I'm so sorry for my family's behavior. Please meet me in my study, I'll be there in a moment." They nodded their heads and got up.

"Athena, can you give us a moment," My father smiled. "Of course, Vincent I'll be upstairs waiting for you," she got up. "What is wrong with you!" My father yelled. My mother looked at him and tilted her head. "You've got a lot of nerve yelling at me." "Darling-" "No, no, it's fine. But if you find the need to talk to me like that again, we're going to have some problems. Now go to your study," she did a shooing motion with her hand.

I could tell that my father wanted to say something, but he bit his tongue and walked away. "Vincent, go upstairs and get that woman out of my house." "Yes ma'am," I got up.

*****

I walked in my room. Athena was sitting on my bed looking through the pictures that she showed me earlier. "What do you see in her?" Athena questioned. "What are you talking about?" "You chose this over your wife!" "Don't talk about her like that!" "Why not? You're never going to see her again!" "Get out!"

"You know maybe I should give your father these pictures," she walked past me, I grabbed her arm. "I wouldn't do that," I said coldly. "You won't hurt me, Vincent," she looked at me. "You're right, I won't." Athena smiled. Her smile slowly faded as she felt a sharp coldness in her back.

"You've overstayed your welcome Athena," Envy spoke. "If anything happens to that girl, you're as good as dead. Do you understand me?" Athena nodded her head. "Words." "I-I understand." "Good, now get your parents and get the hell out of this house." Athena walked out.

"Envy you didn't have to-" "I did," she looked at me. "Why?" "Because she doesn't deserve any more pain." "Envy, do you have feelings for her?" She chuckled lightly. "Have a good night, Vincent," she left without another word.
