Chapter 4 ~ a day together

You awoke to the sound of your phone ringing, buzzing and vibrating against your table. You groaned, burying your head into your pillow, hoping that the person calling you would give up. Memories of the events of yesterday flooded you, making you feel heavy again. As soon as the ringing stopped, it started up again. You rolled over, grabbing your phone. Maybe it was urgent. 

You answered it without checking the contact and pressed the phone up against your ear.

"Hello?" You croaked, your voice hoarse from having just woken up.

"Good morning beautiful, did I wake you up?" Childe's voice sounded from the other end. 

"Well you were sorta spam calling me so yeah," you pointed out as you sat up in your bed. 

Childe's laughs resonated from the other end, a sound that resembled the sweet chiming of bells, "sorry, girlie. When you're ready, come over."

"Huh? What do you-?" he hung up before you could finish your sentence. You groaned, falling back onto your bed. You stared at the ceiling, a heavy pit in your chest. So, everything that happened yesterday wasn't a dream, you thought. Diluc really had..

You immediately shot up as you realised that you hadn't called Lumine. You got so caught up with everything that happened yesterday that you didn't even have time to tell your best friend about it. You unlocked your phone again and called her.

As usual, she answered within the first few rings.

"Morning, Y/N," she greeted, her voice much more energetic than yours. "You never wake up this early, that's new."

"Morning, Lumine," you slurred her name a little, still half-asleep. You remembered when you were younger and were staying over at the siblings' house, Lumine would always wake up earlier than anyone else. 

"Oh! Aether's here too!" Lumine said happily.

"Hi Y/N!" you heard Aether chime in, "How are you? How's Diluc?"

"Oh yeah! How did that call go with him, by the way?" Lumine asked.

"About that.." you felt your chest ache at the thought. "we.. broke up."

"What?!" Both of the twins cried out. "No way! What happened?!"

"He found someone better," you said bitterly.

"Oh gosh, I never expected that from him.." Lumine spoke, her voice soft, "hey, it's alright. Some things just aren't meant to be. You're better off without him in your life."

You sniffled, "thanks, L'mine."

You glanced at the clock on your wall, realising that you probably shouldn't keep Childe waiting. "Alright, I gotta go."

"Where are you going?"

"Well, my neighbour called me over to hang out," you dragged yourself out of bed, throwing the warm sheets off of you. 

"You could use a distraction, go have fun Y/N," Aether urged. "Take care of yourself."

The three of you said your goodbyes and hung up. You dragged your feet over to the bathroom and washed your face, the cold water doing little to wake you up. Childe told you to come over, so maybe you were going to hang out again. Either way, you can't just come in your pyjamas.
