Chapter 29

As I was walking out to my car during lunch time I couldn’t help but catch the red rose and envelope that was in between my car’s windshield wipers. It’s funny how it felt like de ja vu just like all those other times that had picked them from my car before. I grabbed the envelope and that rose as I walked into my car. I did not have time to see what exactly was in the envelope since I had to hurry up and pick up aunt Lyn at the airport.

Mom couldn’t help but give me the head up until five minutes ago and aunt Lyn was about to arrive in fifteen minutes. Seriously was I a chauffeur or what! Well no matter I still had to go and pick her up. Aunt Lyn was a nice woman but she was oblivious as to how I was treated so it was no surprise that I steered clear of her. She had no one to pick her up from the airport after taking a month vacation in Florida. Like every divorced woman she was escaping from her problems. Who could blame her when she married a drunk?

When I reached the airport I had hurried inside to find her since her plane had landed about ten minutes ago. I hope I can find her because mom and she are going to kill me if I don’t. “Samantha is that you dear?” I heard someone yell out to me. Quickly turning around trying to catch the voice to the person I spotted her. She was happy even though she I was a bit late standing there with all her purple luggage. My aunt was still in her early forty’s looking good in a pair of jeans and a dark blue beater. She looked naturally tanned and normal which was a shocker. I imagined her heart broken and in mourning but I guess not. Maybe that month in Florida did help her after all. “Sorry I am late aunt Lyn.”

Walking towards her I hugged her and grabbed her luggage heading out of the airport and to my car. “It’s fine dear it gave a chance to get my luggage if anything.” Well that was new she was more relaxed than ever. I liked this new side of her better than before, I guess people do change after all. Once her things were loaded up we got in the car and I drove off to her house that was about thirty minutes from home. That was the weird part because even though she was so near home we never visited her but we did communicate a few times a year but that was it really. Then again that was mom’s family for you all reserved and quiet with themselves. Come to think about grandma was cold towards everyone maybe that was why mom was like that.

Dad’s family was nothing of the kind they were all sweet and caring. All of my favorite uncles and aunts were from his side of the family but ever since the funeral mom made sure to lose all contact between them and us. I wanted to keep contact but it was hard trying to hide it from mom besides how could I when I was so screwed up myself. There was nothing like family! Hah if dad were only to see how things are he would have had a fit of it all. I bet he would have taken Kaylie and me to his sister’s house to live with while mom got her crap straight. I would have loved to see that happen but most of all I would have loved to see him meet Mike. That would be some dream come true that was for sure.

Realizing that we had arrived to her house I got off and helped her carry all of her luggage to her front door and inside. After that she thanked me and took off somewhere into her home. Well so much for goodbyes, I left not having to be told. Knowing that I would be late to class anyways I took my time to get to class seeing as I was already missing half an hour of class anyways.

Parking in the same spot I was previously I decided to see what was in the envelope. Surprisingly when I opened them there were a few pictures at first with me in them either laughing or smiling at someone just having a good time. Some were taken at school, outside the house or just when I was out in public. Although the pictures of me all had hearts around me which I thought was weird but whatever. Then there were the pictures of Mike and I just like the other ones but the really weird part was that these had big red X’s on his face. The last picture was what really held my attention because it was a recent picture of me when I had went to pick up my sister the other day. In big bold red letters the word read around my face was ‘MINE.’
