A Forgotten Birthday

The next day I woke up and took another hot shower to wake up. I got changed into some light blue jeans and black tank tops with a light white blouse and my converse.  I left my hair down to do its own thing as usual. Once I was at school I went straight to my locker but before I got there I seen at least twenty people crowded at my locker. I was wondering what happened to my locker or was I in trouble. Crap I guess there’s only one way to find out.  I walked straight to my locker pushing people aside gently waiting to see what the big deal was about. Finally when I reached my locker I heard everyone burst out singing Happy Birthday to me and a big banner and card was posted on my locker to.

I can’t believe I forgot my eighteenth birthday! Where have I been lately I mean really? Jaime pops out of the crowd and she’s singing the loudest and as they all finish she crashes into me giving me the biggest hug in the world almost squishing me to death. They all yelled “Happy Birthday Samantha!” in sync when the song was over. I had the biggest smile on my face and I was just so happy that someone did care about me. I had gotten so emotional that a single tear rolled down my cheek and Jaime noticed.

“Awww don’t cry I will never do this again if it makes you happy.”

“No it’s not that it’s just that you all remembered and it’s nice to know that someone cares.”

“Haha okay and you know we all care, we all love you and don’t forget that! Besides, who could forget your birthday?”

“Actually believe it or not I forgot and no one at home told me anything either” I said with a half-smile.

“Well we did not forget so put a smile on your face and lets go to class birthday girl!” she told me cheerfully.

With that being said I told everyone “thank you” and walked to class with my best friend ever in the world Jaime. What would I do without her? Throughout first and second period everyone one of friends started singing the “Happy Birthday” song with everyone else chiming in with them. I got all flushed every time they did that but I loved them for it.

During lunch time Jaime kept stalling me at my locker for some reason and I had a feeling that I had another surprise to face so I played along. Sure enough when I went into the cafeteria the biggest crowd was waiting for me. As I got closer there was the biggest most beautiful cake in the center of the table that read “Happy 18th Birthday Samantha.” The cake had my favorite superhero decorated on to it. I loved the way superman had his pose and to top it off they had a doll being held in superman’s arm with a picture of me on her face as if superman were sweeping me away.  Once again they sang “Happy Birthday” and I was the happiest girl on earth!

The rest of the day continued like that until after school. I didn’t have any plans since I had forgotten my own birthday and I sure as hell was not going home. I decided that I would go to my favorite coffee shop near the college campus and just chill there for a while and go to the bank afterwards.

When I entered the coffee shop the first thing I smelled were there delicious apricot muffins and their sweet scented coffee.  The coffee shop was average size I guess you can say and the sun always shined in making everything sparkle. There weren’t that many people but there was only a few tables empty. After I finished ordering I sat near a window letting the sun shine on my face just the way I liked it. from the corner of my eye I seen a man staring at me but I avoided it thinking only about my art and besides there was another man staring at me from near the cash register and he gave me the creeps. Once I finished my muffin I took out my sketch pad and started drawing away for about thirty minutes blocking out the world from me.

Suddenly I feel someone walk up to me and ask “may I sit here?”

I looked up at him and I couldn’t help but stare at him he had a light skin tone and the most intoxicating light blue eyes that I would surely never forget. He had a bright smile and he was at least a foot taller than me and his hair was perfect short but not too long. I couldn’t help but look at him but then realized that I hadn’t replied so I told him right away “yheah sure that’s fine.”

“Thank you” he said in a masculine sexy voice.

“You welcome”

“So what are you drawing? May I see it?”

I looked at him again and said “yheah sure” and I passed my sketch pad to him. He grabbed it and looked at it for a while and I just had to know what he thought.

“You drew this? This is very talented and the detail of it is just something” he replied

“Haha yheah I seem to get lost in my work as always and I was just finishing the detail on the butterfly since I already added color to the rose.”

“I like it its very beautiful just like your lovely brown eyes.”

“Thank you and I doubt that my eyes are that nice. My eyes are just plain brown like any other.”

“Nope you’re wrong because your eyes have a bright glare and especially when the sun hits them. They get this really light brown color that I’ve never seen before. I like it.”

“Well thank you but enough about my eyes. What are you doing here?”

“I’m taking a break from my classes. Actually I don’t have class today so I decided to come get some coffee at my favorite coffee shop.” He said with a smile.

“Is that a joke?”

“What? Why would I be joking?”

“Well it so happens that this is my favorite coffee shop and I don’t have class either.”

“Hmm that is funny and what a small world it is” he says with an even brighter smile.

I couldn’t help but smile back and reply to him “so Mr. Small world what is your name?”

He chuckled and replied “Mike and yours if you don’t mind me asking”

“Samantha “I said just as my phone started ringing. Great we were having a great conversation and I’m interrupted. Looking at the caller id I see that’s its Jane my sister’s godmother. I look at Mike and say “sorry I have to take this.”

“It’s fine, go ahead.” He replied calmly with a grin. God his smiles and his grins were to die for.

I answered the phone and said hello.

“Hi Samantha, I was wondering if your mother was going to lend me the money and I promise to pay back if she does.” She said.

“Of course yheah she is and as a matter of fact I’m going to the bank right now so ill drop off the money tomorrow afternoon.”

“Ohhh okay thank you Samantha dear, have a nice day bye.”

“Bye” I replied and hung up.

I looked up at Mike and surprisingly he was already looking at me with his soft light blue eyes.  “Sorry about that but she needs a loan from my kind mother” I said sarcastically.

He chuckled catching my sarcasm for my mother. “I won’t ask unless you want to tell me but that’s okay I survived without talking to you for a few seconds” he said with a grin.

“Well it’s getting late and the banks about to close so I better get going” I told him with a half-smile.

“Well I was about to head that way so if you don’t mind can I join you?”

“Sure it’s fine, shall we?”  I replied. He got up and cleared the table while I put my things away and we walked out of the coffee shop together heading to the bank that was conveniently right next door. J
