A/N: This takes place about ten years before The Serpent's Venom. This is how Moon has saved the universe (and got Darklight) before she ran into Loki. She also doesn't have her sword yet.
Only ten years old, and now sneaking onto a spaceship, about to blow it up to stop it from destroying the universe. She was pretty sure she wouldn't get any help here, as it wasn't ever really the easiest to be her.
As she silently crept along the corridors, praying to not be seen, she clutched her singular stick of dynamite, which she had acquired from the cargo haul. Her plan was to simply get into the main power supply in this ship, and hopefully one stick of TNT was enough to set it off.
One small flaw in her plan was she'd have to go through the labs and the barracks to get there.
And that might require her to leave behind a trail of bodies.
As much as she knew she had to blow this ship sky-high, she couldn't help but marvel at the design and thought put into the build. It was really a shame this had to go to waste.
Oh well.
Just her luck, she ran straight into a small party of three soldiers with very intimidating guns.
They stared at her for a moment, no doubt very unsure of what to do about a ten year old.
They got their answer on what they should have done pretty soon, as they all moaned in pain on the floor, one or two with broken arms, and another suffering from a kick that went in the wrong spot.
After knocking them out with their own guns, and grabbing one for herself, she ran along the halls, knowing that eventually someone would stumble on the unconscious soldiers.
She came across a door with a keypad and a thing for swiping cards. Frustrated, she ripped it off the wall, and melted through the door.
She realized her mistake as soon as she reached the other side. The alarms started going off, flashing red light alerting the break-in, and the loud speaker going off, calling everyone to the door.
Running as fast as her legs could carry her, she rounded the corner, skidding along, until she made it into the labs. Closing the door behind her, she looked around. Nobody was in here.
Her curiosity getting the best of her, she looked around at the chemicals and animals. She felt bad, but there was no way she could free them all and get them off the ship. Right before she was about to leave, she spotted something in a glass container, with metal pieces on top.
Looking closer, she realized it looked like an egg, but with scales. It was black, and its iridescence was visible, even in the dim light.
Maybe she couldn't save all these animals, but she could save one thing, to atone for the lives she was about to take.
After studying the glass for a moment, she broke it, and lifted the warm egg out. Tucking it under her arm, she ran out, and towards the barracks. She ditched the gun so she could hang onto the dynamite and the egg.
Her footsteps echoed and she burst into the barracks, and fifty or so men looked at her.
"All those with family, go stand over there. Those without, over there."
None moved. She grabbed a random person by the throat and dragged him closer. "Now! Or you can all die."
They shuffled obediently, and let go of the man she was holding. He stumbled over to the "family side".
She wasn't heartless. She didn't want any kids to lose a parent like how she lost hers.
"I want those who have family to go along the corridors." She stopped the first person to start moving.
"Take everyone here who has family to the escape pods. This thing's gonna blow. And if you guys try to recreate this organization I will find everybody here and murder them." She said it in a whisper.
The person slowly nodded, and they all left. Moon walked right past the non-family people. She sealed the door behind her and ran to the huge tank, which didn't sound very stable.
As much as she dreaded this part of her plan, it seemed like the only way out. She stuck the dynamite straight near the lid, and set it on fire.
Gripping the egg tightly, she opened a rift, and ran through it, trying to hurdle towards her home as fast as possible.
She made it right before the explosion reached her, and the rift closed just as pieces of shrapnel and fire rained down. She lifted her head, and glanced at the egg. With a jolt of terror, she noticed a few of its scales had fallen off.
Did I hurt it?
Worried, she still tried to incubate it as best as she could.
For five days she waited, not knowing if the creature inside was alive.
Apparently it was, because once the animal had hatched, her mind started checking it over.
Wings. Tail. Four legs. Kind of like a lizard with wings.
She'd thought they were a common myth. Moon had personally never seen a dragon in her life, but here she was, a small hatchling in her lap, his beautiful black scales making his blue talons, wings, and tail pop.
She'd named him Darklight, and quickly figured out he was more like a toddler than a fearsome monster.
He loved cat toys, even though he destroyed them within the first fifteen minutes. He was picky with food, and had the tendency to whine when he didn't get his way.
But it didn't take Moon long to figure out that he was able to open rifts and destroy things in the blink of an eye.
But he was her best friend, her only friend, for ten years. She loved him more than anything, as he did her.
And her favorite thing to do with him was just relax and let him fly into the sunset.
Yay! We all know how their friendship started! I, personally, think this is adorable with little ten year old Moon looking after a baby dragon like it's her child.
By the way, here's a drawing I did of Darklight, after his rebirth.
(I used an outline from someone else, I forgot their name, but credit goes to them)
And yes, if you can't guess, it's a Toothless outline *DON'T JUDGE MY INNER LOVE FOR HTTYD*Bai nows :D
