We're going to say you and Ender are about 15 in the this.
"Anderson, I think we're losing him."
"I'm well aware of that, Coronel. I'm working on a couple possible solutions."
"I need you to work faster Anderson, the fleet is only a year or so away. We need him to command it."
"What do you suggest we do? His sister refused to come visit him after the stunt we pulled with the letter."
"Bring in the girl."
"Graf you know how risky that could be."
"We are running out of options, Anderson, and she is the only person he loves as much as Valentine."
"But we need Y/n to be one of the squadron leaders. Emotions like that connecting them might make it impossible for him to command her."
"It's a risk we need to take."
"Fine. Fly her down."
Y/n's POV
I looked out the window anxiously as my home planet of Earth passed by. There was so much green, I forgot how bright it was and how many colors there were on Earth. I sigh. This might be making me happier, under different circumstances, but I was on my way to see Ender and that was about all I could think about. They asked me to convince him to start heading to Command school, by whatever means necessary. Ender and I were connected, I was smart enough to know that. We had a different relationship then most of the other Commanders at Battle School and I was counting on that to push along my argument. The car pulls over.
I step out onto the soft, cool grass in a swimsuit the IF had provided for me. Below me, at the base of the hill, was a gorgeous lake hidden in a collection of towering mountains. The curvature of the scene almost reminded me of Battle School. On the side of the lake closest to where I was standing he was waiting on a makeshift but sturdy looking raft. I feel relief flood me as I rush down to see him and he smiles as a rush into his arms, feeling at home for the first time in a long while.
"I missed you Ender," I say softly "Are you alright." I look up into the young man's eyes, placing my hand softly on his cheek.
"How am I supposed to answer that, Y/n" he answers, his glance casted down and his mouth in a small smile. I feel my heart break a little and bury myself in his chest. After we sat for several moments, I let go and turned to the lake.
"Where'd you get the little boat," I ask, knowing perfectly well that he made it.
"It's been a little passion project of mine, I guess you could say," he says stepping onto it and I follow closely behind. He paddles out into the middle of the lake. We swim around a little bit before climbing back on the raft and baking in the summer-like heat.
"The curve of this basin," Ender begins but I cut him off.
"I know, it reminds me of it too," I say quietly. There's a pause
"You're here because they want me to come back, right," he says, with hints of sadness and annoyance laced into his voice.
"Officialy, yes," I say guilty.
"How about unofficially," he counters, hopefully.
"How am I supposed to answer that, Ender," I say, strained and stealing his words from earlier. We both know how we feel about each other.
"I don't know if I can do it anymore, Y/n. I just don't feel like there's a point," he says matter of factly.
"Ender you know you have to do this, you just have to," I say, titling my head to meet his eyes, "for your sister, for this life, for humanity... for me." I added the last part tentatively. Ender looks at me questioningly. I reach out and place my hand on top of his. It seems to be the push he needed because he turns, puts his hand on my head, and kisses me. I gasp. I saw this coming, I did. We both wanted this but it was just dangerous and now, well now I don't know. I kiss him back passionately.
Ender is the first to pull away, his hand still resting near the back of my neck and our foreheads resting together.
" We have to do this, Ender, we have to go," I say, pained.
"I know y/n. I know," he answers with just as much resigned hurt.
"I'll be with you. The whole way," I say, not knowing whether that's true or not.
"Don't make promises you can't keep, love," he chuckles. There's silence.
"I love you Ender," I say, nervous. He looks at me with a glint of joy.
"I love you too, Y/n," he responds. We kissed again.
"I'm so sorry I convinced you to come back," I apologize.
"Yeah me too, my love," he answers. We row towards the shore.
