Paige opened the last box of stuff and settled her things in her new room. In that last box she found an old picture of her and her brother, Tony, and couldn't help but think back. He'd taught her almost everything she knew. After all she was his little sister even if they didn't share the same blood. He didn't seem to mind. He never made he feel like she wasn't part of his family. Their family. None of them did. Tony also liked to share his successes with her so she knew a lot about the Avengers and Tony's technology.
She knew about all the Avengers exept one guy. James Buchanan Barnes. He was mysterious and Tony didn't talk about him much. Every time she'd ask he'd only make a weird grimace and quickly change the subject. Paige only knew his friends called him Bucky. But she wondered if he had such thing as friends. Someway she'd found out that, he had been "brainwashed" by HYDRA and became the Winter Soldier, which she didn't exactlly know what it made him. She was curious about Bucky's story and she was interested in learning more, helping him get better although she wasn't sure he wasn't already ok.
On the other hand Bucky after Steve's death became more secretive and alone than before. He had trouble trusting people, even his own friends. He started pulling away from pretty much everyone exept Sam. He was the undying candle-light helping him get through the dark parts of his life.
At nights he slept on the floor as he had the same issue Steve used to have but also had nightmares. When and if he was sleeping, he seemed to be a part of a different world, a darker one. One he wanted to leave behind but couldn't quite get rid of. In this world he was still the Winter Soldier, all that killing, the blood, the pain, the feeling he was there but couldn't control himself all making his skin crawl in a familiar way. He hated that familiarity.
He stopped talking to Sam after a while too. He thought, if he held onto that light tighter when he needed it most, he would simply blow it out. Sam was the second person close to Bucky, the first being Steve of course. Bucky grew more distant by the day eventually being completely isolated. Everyone started worrying adout Bucky and how being so alone would shatter his mental health.

Once Paige got settled in she started on her "mission": discover who Bucky Barnes really is. "Where should i start"she thought while pacing back and forth in her room "I'll go introduce myself!". Then she quickly went to the bakery down the road, bought some cookies and headed to Bucky's room. His door was different than the others. Everyone had something of their own hanging or attached to their snow-white doors. His was simply painted an empty, deep navy blue with a small black star on eye-level. Paige knocked on the door rhythmically and waited patiently for Bucky to open. She waited there for 10 minutes just standing outside the blank door, holding a small ,baby blue, box filled with chocolate chip cookies tapping her foot out of anxiety. "He may not be in there I should come back later" she thought. However, when she was about to leave she heard a loud thud from inside his room.In the room Bucky was in his own, terrible world. His nightmare realm. In the nightmare Zemo had awakened the Winter Soldier and he was fighting the Avengers, targetting Sam. While he was flying, the Winter Soldier slowly raised his gun, aiming at Sam his hand steady, although Bucky could feel his own trembling like a leaf.
He felt his finger pressing at the trigger. He fought to hold himself from hurting his friend but as usual he wasn't in control. The Winter Soldier shot Sam in the wings and he fell to the ground, which sent a shiver down Bucky's back making him uncomfortable and causing him to change his sleeping position. Fortunately Sam was still alive. Bucky released a breath he didn't even know he was holding. However, when the Winter Soldier realized Sam was still alive he shot directly at him. That's when Bucky woke up banging his hands on the floor, from frustration, and helplessly started gasping for air.
Worried, Paige opened the door and found Bucky sitting on the floor, with a blanket. His scared look couldn't escape Paige's attention as their eyes met. He looked as if he'd been to hell and back. More than once. His grasp on the sheets tightening by the second, his forehead damp, sweat dripping from his pale cheeks.
"Where you sleeping on the floor?" she asked confused, looking around his room. It was almost empty.
"Who are you and what are you doing here?" he asked completely ignoring Paige's previous question, still upset from the nightmare. He was scared, he felt ashamed that the strange girl had seen him ike that. He couldn't make out who she was. He was too upset. But he couldn't shake the feeling he'd seen her before. Something about her felt familiar.
"Well, I'm Paige , Tony's sister, and I just moved here so I thought i would come and introduce myself. Look I brought cookies!" she answered in a warm friendly tone whith a big smile on her face while shaking the box of cookies jokingly.
"Get out!" he shouted pointing to the door behind Paige.
"Um...RUDE!" she commented anoyed by the stranger's reaction, eager to slap him across his strangely attractive face.
"I said get out!" he repeated, more angrily this time while he stood up to close the door.
Paige's thoght of striking him went away as he stood up unravelling his left hand from his bone-white sheet. It wasn't flesh neither metal. It was vibranium. She would know. She'd worked with it before.
She hurried out of the room as she saw the big man rush towards her and he slammed the door behind her. The loud noise scared her and made her jump. He leaned against the door, sinking to the floor and sighed heavily.
Why had he treated her like that. She hadn't doen anything to him. She didn't even know him. The thought of his nightmare suddenly struck him and his eyes filled with burnning tears. Was it rage for his actions? Was it sadness?
He couldn't tell anymore. He shoved his face in his hands and sat there sobbing like a lost child, waiting for some one to save him and pull him out of his frustrating confusion.
