Six months later

I wake up to the sound of the girls crying and a panicked Dante trying to feed them; Picking up a bottle, I hand it to Luna, who gladly accepts. Once finished, we take them outside for a walk in the stroller. All my friends join me, and we take the trail up into the surrounding forest to go to the cliffside that overlooks the whole town. When we get to the top, we all sit down and enjoy the view with the silence that follows it.

An explosion erupts from somewhere in the town, causing us to gasp as screams fill the air. A second explosion soon follows, followed by a third. Screams echo in the wind as loud growls and screeches erupt all around, we put the girls back in the stroller and gather up all their belongings, and put them in their diaper bag, slinging it over my shoulder. I start to push the stroller back down the path. I try to keep them as quiet as I can; Walking back to my living area for my weapon, we all walk close together.

Back at our living areas we all gather our weapons and grab up our bags. The bags contain our important items then head back out to where my truck is parked. I begin getting the girls all buckled in and putting their stuff in the back as the others climb inside. I head over to the shed that was located to the left of my place and unlock the deadbolt on the door. I wait at the entrance until the death walks out to me and slowly smiles down at me.

Six months ago, when Josh had gotten bitten, Garrett died. I thought my world was over, turns out that even as dead, he still knows who I am and won't hurt me. I lead him over to the truck, push him into the passenger seat and buckle him in. Dante puts up the metal fencing to keep him from being able to reach anyone in the back. It seems weird, but he doesn't even try to bite me or hurt me even when he hasn't eaten anything.

I start up the truck and begin to head out of the front gates that are supposed to keep them out but looking around at the people dying lets me know they failed. I slowly drive out of the town and begin my journey out into the world again on a mission to make it to the location my parents had given me for emergencies. The drive is quiet due to the girls falling asleep, and the others are too scared of Josh to make any noise. I pull off to the side of the road, pull out the walkie-talkie, and turn it on while Josh runs after a deer. Soon, I can hear the bus driver respond that he was able to get everyone that we had come here without being alive.

Josh eats, then joins me at the truck once he is done eating. I get him back into the passenger seat and buckled in. I continue driving down the road quietly until Dante speaks up about where we are going. I explain everything to him about what my parents had told me. I sit quietly while driving and think about how I am going to get Josh better while trying to keep the kids alive.

I cry out as I begin to have a horrible pain start in my groin and make its way up to my stomach. I swerve the truck but keep it on the road and slow down some as Dante radios the others. I let out another cry, slam on the breaks then get out of the truck. I sit down on the side of the road as another pain rips through me, a lady comes running over to me and squats down. She begins to count to herself and then nods as soon as the pain hits again.

"Bring me some towels and water bottles, you, get behind her and hold her," she tells Dante as Mason runs to get the items. Crying out again, Dante runs his hand through my hair while I lean on his chest and grab his hand. The lady then says her name is Brandy and that she was in labor and delivery before all this death started and how she was going to talk me through everything. Mason comes running back as everyone begins to speak quietly and give me space except for my friends, who watch silently off to the side. I cry out and grab my stomach as she says that I have dilated to five centimeters and that I need to wait until I am ten.

After two hours of crying and yelling Brandy tells me that I am now ready to start pushing. I never knew I could feel pain like this but am still excited to see my baby. Realizing Garrett will never get to meet his baby makes me start to push and cry at the same time. After thirty minutes of pushing, I hear the first wail from my baby, and Dante repeatedly, cheering me on even though his hand must hurt from me squeezing it. I sigh in relief as she wraps a blanket around the baby and hands him to me as she finishes taking care of me.

"Congratulations, Harper, it's a boy," Brandy says happily.

"Garrett Jr," I say, smiling down at my baby boy.

Someone hands her a body measurement tape and a scale so she can get his height and weight. Garrett is eighteen inches long and six pounds eight ounces. I keep smiling as happy tears run down my face. He has blonde hair and blue eyes, just like his daddy. Dante continues to rub my hair to keep it off my face, and Brandy tells me that I am going to be fine.

Everyone falls silent when we hear a loud growl. Dante grabs the baby and puts him in the car seat he got for me a few weeks ago. The girls get put into their car seats while everyone began to get back to the safety of the vehicles. The guys all run to me and begin to quietly talk about how to get me into the truck without hurting me. They all turn to look at the area where the growling was coming from to see an enormous horde of more than a hundred dead snarling at us.
