Will I hurt you like they hurt me?

1 - Good Mornings

Amelia had never felt like this before. She had loved, loved so deeply that she thought she would internally combust, been in love even but never had she felt a love like this before. Was it even love? She'd only known Kai for 6 months now but God had it been the best 6 months of her life. They'd only been dating for the last couple though so could it really be love? Whatever it was, it was strong, intense, an almost indescribable feeling of true comfort, the sensation of being loved and seen by someone. She adored it but the feeling also scared her to death. Kai had the power to destroy her completely, but dear god did she hope they wouldn't.

She stirred in their arms, moving to face their sleeping figure, studying the peaceful expression on their face, her brain going crazy wondering how Kai felt about her. A few minutes passed, Amelia still staring before being startled by a whisper of "stalker" followed by a smile coming from Kai clearly no longer asleep.

"Do you always watch people sleep or are you just that obsessed with me" they said opening their eyes and turning onto their side to face her. Amelia rolled her eyes at them, feigning annoyance but couldn't keep a smile from forming on her lips.

"Shut up, I woke up like a minute before you." She leans in for a gentle kiss, pulling away just enough to speak "I was only staring because you snore louder than Mer, I'm surprised I didn't wake up sooner!"

Kai pulled away, putting a hand to their chest in mock offence. "I don't snore."

"Oh, trust me Bartley, you do." Amelia leaned closer, Kai following in her lead but stopping just close enough so Amelia could feel their breath on her lips.

"Take it back. Now"

"Or what"

Kai let out a soft breathy laugh, touching Amelia's lips with their own for just a second before getting out of bed, throwing a white button up over their boxers.

"Coffee?"

Amelia laid there, mouth slightly agape, cheeks a light shade of pink, not moving until she realised Kia was stood with a smirk waiting for a response. After nodding, she watched them walk away enjoying the view before throwing one of their shirts on and following to the kitchen.

"Is that my shirt? I don't remember saying you could wear my clothes" Amelia just shrugged whilst Kai approach and hugged her waist from behind. "Although I could get used to this sight in the morning."

Amelia looked back at Kai over her shoulder, a little in shock but mostly in awe, flashing them a shy smile before they leaned down to kiss her, both of them smiling into it.

"Me too" came out as a content sign from Amelia, her head leaning back against Kai's chest, hands on top of the ones around her waist. She'd never felt so happy and relaxed as she did right now in Kai's arms, but for Amelia that comes with the fear and guilt that seem to follow her everywhere. Letting herself be this vulnerable, this happy with someone isn't natural, she's waiting for the penny to drop and reality to hit. Hurricane Amelia always finds a way to ruin things.

"We should probably get ready, you have surgery and I have a lab to get to" Kai sighed reluctantly, chin resting on Amelia's head. She just hums against their chest, a muffled noise resembling the words 5 minutes coming out of her mouth as she turned and snaked her arms around their waist, burying her face in their chest. Kai couldn't say no, how could they when the woman of their dreams was holding onto them like they were the most important person in the world to her. A few more minutes of comfortable silence passed before they really needed to get ready. Kai took the initiative, lifting their head and placing their hands on Amelia's cheek, directing her gaze into theirs.

"Ames I could stay like this all day if we could, but you have lives to save and I need to call my lab, make sure she knows I still love her." Kai's smile at the end of the sentence was one that melted Amelia's heart every time she had the privilege to see it. She smiled back at them shaking her head.

"Well, we could have the lab feeling neglected now, could we? You do know she can't understand or talk back to you right? Amelia quipped back.

"Oh, trust me Shepherd the lab knows I love her, and she loves me too. She misses me when I'm gone" Kai's face is wearing a shit eating grin whilst Amelia pouts during Kai's confession of love. "Don't worry" Kai leans down so their mouth is brushing Amelia's ear. "She's nothing compared to you." They whisper before placing a light kiss on her cheek then walking away to start their day. Amelia stood blushing and dumbfounded for a second before smiling and getting ready for work before anything or anyone else could distract her.

The couple got out of the car, joined ands and walked into the hospital together, greeting the nurses and doctors that had gotten to know the pair.

"God, you don't know how much I love this. Walking into my hospital, you on my arm, seeing everyone's face when they see us together. They're all jealous you know"

They walked into the elevator, Kai glancing at Amelia.

"Of what?

"Of me"

Amelia bought their conjoined hands together and kissed Kai's, looking up at them with such admiration. The elevator got to Amelia's floor, and she slowly walked off, holding onto Kai's hand for as long as she could before it became impossible. "I will see you at home" she said before the door closed leaving them both to go to work, anticipating the end of the day so they could see each other again.

If anyone's reading this, hi! This is my first ever story so apologies for any mistakes that will definitly occur! Kai and Amelia together has single handedly made my year and whilst we're waiting for their return and I have time off of university, I thought I might as well try and fill the gap! This will be an intense story with some TW's in place but the love I have for these two will absolutley be shown through the story!
