I stood in front of the burning house, my mouth was wide open in shock. The firefighters arrived too late, my son and daughter were dead. My life was over, or at least that's what I thought almost a year ago when it happened. Nowadays I work the day shift at Freddy Fazbear's Pizzaria thinking it would take my mind off of the event, but in reality everything reminds me of my kids.
I walked around the play area, looking at the various kids playing and how little attention their parents are paying to them. I shook my head and sighed, something could probably happen to their kids and they wouldn't give a damn, I should show them all how much they should care, then more people would pay attention to their kids. But that is for another day. A kid bumped into me.
"Hey, watch where you're going kid." I glared at the kid who looked to be about 12, I wondered why a teenager would be here of all places.
"Why don't you watch where you're goin', old man." And with that the kid ran off, calling out what I could only assume was his brothers name.
I rolled my eyes and continued on, I stopped once I saw a young woman playing with her children, she was quite a beautiful woman. I smiled, at least some parents care about their kids. The woman looked over at me and waved, I quickly looked away in embarrassment and kept walking. I arrived at the show stage where the animatronics stood, I looked at them, they had an almost dead look to them. I shivered, how did kids like these lifeless robots?
"Hey, Daniel!" I was brought out of my thoughts by a familiar voice, I looked over to see my co-worker coming towards me.
"Oh hey scott." I said as he walked with me.
"How are ya doin' buddy?" He asked smiling.
"Uh pretty good I guess." I shrugged.
"Great so uh hey can you maybe take over for me one of these days?"
"Um... sure, which day?"
"Not sure, probably around the 14th though." He shrugged.
"Yeah, sure, I can cover for you." I nodded.
"Great! Thanks so much bud, I promise I'll pay you back for it." He smiled and walked off, once he was gone I rolled my eyes. I never liked scott, he was always too happy and fake. I walked past the game area and the prize corner, these had to be my least favorite areas. I hated the weird puppet, it always looked angry but the kids liked it. Then there was the eerie plastic kid, call balloon boy or bb as scott affectionately called it, it just creeped me out. I finished checking around so I walked back over to the kids play area, the woman was still playing with her children.
"Un excuse me sir?" The woman walked up to me, I could feel my cheeks warm up in embarrassment so I looked down at the floor.
"U-uh yes ma'am?" I responded.
"I couldn't help but notice you've been... staring at me, in not doing anything am i?" The woman asked.
"O-oh no, you're not doing anything, it's just... it's nice to see someone playing with their kids for once." I looked back up at her, she smiled such a bright smile I swear the whole room lit up.
"Ah well, the only thing keeping me from playing with them all the time is the weight limit on play equipment." She giggled.
"Well I should ah..." I began.
"Oh! Right you work here, I shouldn't keep you from your job." She paused. "Sorry."
"Oh no, you're fine miss... uh." I trailed off.
"Just call me Katherine, what about you mister?" She smiled putting her hand out for me to shake.
"My names Daniel, it's nice to meet you Katherine." I smiled back, shaking her hand.
"Will you be here tomorrow?" She asked.
"I've got nothing better to do." I chuckled.
"Good! We'll talk tomorrow okay?" She let go of my hand.
"Y-yeah, of course... Katherine." I nodded, she started walking towards her kids. My cheeks were probably a bright red but I didn't care because I was in love.
