Finally, I reach the hotel. I push through the revolving door and enter the lobby. My footsteps echo off the marble and I make my way to the elevators.

Although most power lines have been ruined, the power in the hotel still seems to work well enough. I push the "up" arrow and wait. The soft orange glow welcomes me home.

The shiny metal doors slide open and I step inside. The box is brighter now, which means the wisp is becoming weaker. I need to get up to Amanda right this second, or the wisp won't work. I quickly hit the 7 multiple times, as if it'll work faster.

It seems to take years to get upstairs.

I rush down the abandoned hallway to room 759. I bang on the door to let her know it's me.

"Amanda? It's me. I'm coming inside." I swipe the key card through the scanner and push through the door.

But Amanda isn't here.

"Amanda?" My voice cracks and I start to cry.

"AMANDA?" I'm screaming now, and I'm risking being found with the wisp.

I'm honestly surprised my father hasn't been caught with the wisps he's selling illegally. The survivors of the disease have put together a few regulations, and being caught with a wisp is a crime now. I haven't even been thinking about that, and now I'm in trouble.

I rush through the suite, hoping that Amanda just got up to get a drink and hadn't had the energy to get back into bed.

But she's nowhere to be found.

The last place to look is the balcony.
