I wake up earlier than I should. I pull on a new t-shirt and rip off my old one.
Removing the package from the freezer, I tie the worn out laces of my Converse and get on my way.
The door slams shut behind me and I don't know where to place the wisp to prevent anyone from seeing it, even though it's likely I won't encounter anyone today. I decide not to worry about it.
The wind is weaker this morning, and the sun is warm. Had the disease not wiped out the other half of the world, today would be the type of day that my family and I would enjoy.
But that can't happen now.
And I continue to search.
I try to figure out where she might have wandered off to, but my mind draws a blank. I don't bother to waste my time running, as it will only eat up my energy.
So I walk.
The places that were once packed all the time, are now empty and abandoned. Almost all have been ransacked for the last bits of food available.
And in the distance, I see another light, even though the sun hasn't risen completely.
I quickly decide that I need to investigate.
So I run.
