Lila lit a candle on the countertop and then crossed the room to light another one by the window. Slowly the room brightened, but not a painful kind of brightness, a quiet, calm flickering that immediately made you drowsy.
"Is that lavender?" asked Gregor, leaning against the counter.
"Lavender and vanilla, they're calming," said Lila, putting the lighter away.
Sirius sniffed the air as he stepped over Kane and reached for a high cabinet, "ah, here it is," he said, removing a bottle of Jameson from the cabinet and three glasses.
Gregor rubbed his hands together and Sirius poured them each a generous glass.
Lila cupped the glass in her hands and watched as the other two knocked back one and then two glasses each. She took a small sip and swirled the whiskey around.
"What the fuck are we going to do with her?" she blurted out.
Sirius and Gregor stared at her in shocked silence. The green woman was gentled mannered and Sirius had only heard her curse once before.
"Uhhhh" he answered helpfully.
Gregor put his glass on the counter and leaned back, "well what can we do with her, what are our options?"
Sirius growled and tipped back a third glass, "you saw the video, Gregor, it's not about what we can do anymore, it's a matter of getting her out of that house."
Gregor's face blanched, "Diana and I might have room..."
"Not with the kids," Sirius cut him off, "we don't know she can do- or what they could do to her for that matter."
Gregor sighed but there was a pale look of relief on his face.
Lila glanced at the two of them, "we don't have room here Sirius," she deadpanned.
Sirius stared straight ahead, his jaw clenched in stress.
"She could crash at Kane's place until we get this sorted out," suggested Gregor.
Sirius huffed out a gruff laugh, "yeah and when they get in a teeny-bop fight and kill each other that'll be two problems off our hands."
For a few beats, the three were silent. Kane groggily stood up from the floor and stumbled to the counter. He stared at the three grownups and then at the alcohol and cups on the counter.
"Gregor, can I have-"
"No," cut in Sirius gruffly.
"Not with the amount of blood you lost, buddy," said Gregor apologetically.
Kane slumped down on a stool dejectedly, "so," he started, surveying the group, "what are we talking about? Oh wait, let me guess, that," he gestured to Daisy who by this point was asleep on the couch.
Lila stood up and took a blanket from a basket and draped it over Daisy, pulling it up to her chin. Daisy didn't move and Lila pressed a hand to her forehead for a moment.
"She'll be alright, I think," she said quietly.
"I'll move out, Lila," spoke up Sirius suddenly. He had been sitting perfectly still at the counter with a concentrated expression, "it will be better for all of us most likely. I'll stay with Kane until I can find another opening in this complex."
Lila paused with her hand on the refrigerator door, "are you sure?" she asked.
Sirius nodded as Lila poured a glass of apple juice, "you and Daisy seemed to get along fine, I'll just set up a barrier for a few days until you can set some ground rules."
