stella didn't interact with josh for the rest of the night. it wasn't like she wanted to either. she was exhausted, now that the alcohol had begun to ware off. she also didn't even know where she wanted to stand with him. jake had said josh would come around...but what if she didn't want him to? maybe the past should stay in the past. he probably felt the same way.

josh pointed to a closed door on the first floor, off of the large living room the two of them had walked into.

"you'll sleep there. it's an extra bedroom and also bathroom. get some rest." was all he said. stella walked into the room and fell onto the bed. she wasn't even going to take her makeup off. that would be a problem for tomorrow.

she listened closely as Josh's steps echoed around the quiet house; he was going up the stairs. that was the last thing she heard before falling into a dreamless sleep.

...

stella woke up in the same position she had fallen asleep in; face down and limbs sprawled on the bed. the first thing she noticed was her head, which felt like it was splitting right down the middle. she groaned as she flipped over.

she hadn't even taken a look at the room she had stayed in. it was a modest bedroom; the walls were painted a cream and large, green curtains hung on the large windows to her left. at the moment, they were closed. the queen bed she lay on had a white comforter and three pillows. an award for something hung above the bed, and on the wall opposite the window was two doors, and a wooden dresser.

stella pushed herself up into a sitting position. god, her head was killing her. her phone was lying on the bed next to where her body had just been. she tapped the screen and it lit up with the number 11:46.

what the fuck. she thought. she couldn't remember the last time she had slept in this late. the house was too quiet for it to almost be noon. stella decided that she had to do something about the headache. it was almost impossible for her to think straight. she got up and opened the door on the right. it opened to a small, white bathroom, the floor with white tiles as well. a shower, small sink, mirror, and toilet took up the closet-sized room. she opened the cabinet under the sink. empty.

"what the fuck" she groaned out loud, holding her forehead. she caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror.

"ew." her hair stuck up around her face, and her eyes peered at her surrounded by black smudges. she could already see some pimples beginning to surface. why did she think it was a good idea to sleep in her makeup? stella closed the cabinets back up, held her head in one hand and pulled down her little black dress with the other. she couldn't remember ever being this much of a mess.

she decided that she must venture out into the unknown; josh's house. josh was absolutely the last person she wanted to see right then. but, outside the room was absolutely quiet. maybe he was still asleep.

stella thought of jake. was he still outside. she couldn't stop the giggling escaping her mouth when she thought of what he looked like in the back of josh's truck. and the way josh had been poking him. and the way josh had been staring... at her.

stella shook her head. it was too damn early for this. she pulled the other door open. she looked out over a large living room. two, massive, leather couches faced each other, next to a ceiling high, brick fireplace. two, tall windows looked out at the front lawn, and the front door was made of a towering oak.

wow. he had really made it. the house was nicer than any other home she had ever been to. the light wood floors reflected the bright rays that came through the windows. she tiptoed down the hallway, which opened up to an equally large kitchen. evergreen tiles lined the walls, and a rectangular, white island sat in the middle of the room. a dining table made with the same white wood as the cabinets overlooked a massive patio.

"god damn." stella couldn't stop the words from coming out. she looked around the room, but there seemed to be no more doors. she had to go upstairs.

she really didn't want to. first off, she didn't know what was upstairs. it could very well just be josh's room and bathroom. she also really did not want to run into him. at least not when she couldn't think straight with her headache.

she walked up the grand wooden staircase slowly, making sure each step was silent. she grasped the metal railing firmly. it was cold to the touch. when she made it to the top, she was met with another hallway. three doors. this place was like a god damn riddle.

she tried the first door. it led to a room with windows encompassing the front wall that overlooked the driveway and lawn. inside was a grand piano, multiple guitars, an entire microphone and PA system, and a music recording set up that stella couldn't understand. it must be where josh write's his music. she closed the door as silently as she could, though the handle did click at the very end.

she turned around to face the second door. stella said a silent prayer to herself. please god, let this be the bathroom.

the second door opened to a larger room than the last. sun rays light up the entirety, and large windows overlooked the back of the house. it was a bedroom. their was an old wooden desk, a modest bookshelf, and a king bed covered in many, many quilts. there was also a fast asleep josh, passed out.

he hadn't woken up by her opening the door. he lay peacefully, with his eyes closed, and mouth slightly open. stella couldn't stop her eyes from lingering on his bare, tan, back.

she sighed. stella slowly turned away from the sleeping boy, and began to close the door as slowly as she had opened it. she heard a slight rustle and her eyes met josh's sleepy ones.

"oh im so sorry josh i didn't mean-"

"its fine stella. you need anything?" he sat up in the bed, and the sheets settled to his waist, exposing his bare chest. stella looked down at her feet.

"yeah- um, advil? my head is killing me." she didn't know if she should look at him in the face. the air between them felt vulnerable.

"should be on the kitchen counter." josh rubbed his eyes. "im surprised you didn't check there first before checking out my room."

stella blushed. "i didn't know it was your room."

josh chuckled slightly. why was he being kind? "okay, out now." he shooed her away with her hands.  "i have to piss."

stella quietly closed the door behind her and let out a breath she didn't know that she was holding. it seemed like her headache has disappeared. as she walked down the banister, she wondered if there was actually a future here, for her and the guys. she truly did wish there was.
