stella had ubered back to the bar where her and jake's cars were parked. she hadn't wanted to bother josh again, and jake was still (surprisingly) fast asleep in the back of josh's truck. so, stella found a different way to her car.
she drove back to her apartment in silence, not even turning the radio on to listen to music that could drown out the thoughts in her head. back at home, she sat on the couch, rubbing her temple every once in a while; her head still aching slightly from the night before, and the strange feeling of forgetting something.
then, a text from jake.
jake: hey sorry about falling asleep last night... you get back okay?
stella thought for a moment about what to text back.
stella: yeah, josh let me stay in the guest bed, im back home now
jake: got it, good u had a place to sleep
she threw her phone down on the couch. she couldn't, as much as she tried to, get the image of josh's bare back out of her mind. and why? she hadn't tried to give much thought to him, the romantic thoughts of him, for many years. but now that him, and the other boys had appeared back in her life, she felt herself unable to stop the overwhelming amount of.... hope... she felt.
and was josh still angry at her? she thought of the moments their eyes met last night, and this morning, where he almost seemed to joke. of course he was still mad, stella thought to herself. of course he is.
stella didn't even want to think about work. the radio show was a total fail, she knew that. her boss had texted her right after, but stella hadn't looked, which was irresponsible of her. stella knew her dream was over. she knew, that she would be fired for the awful job that she had done. stella's phone buzzed again, pulling her back into reality.
unknown number: you left your damn purse here.
stella stared at the text, heat rising in her cheeks. though she didn't have the number saved, she knew who it was. her fingers shook slightly as she typed a response, and added the knew contact
stella: fuck, im sorry
josh: im out of the house until about 9pm doing stuff for the band. you can swing by then.
stella put down her phone. so that was it. she'd have to see josh again, tonight. she sighed. she'd better shower and get herself cleaned up.
