His father, Jude, survived. His mother, Lynn, however did not. Since they were divorced and Jude left Lynn with Adam and only came once in a while to care for him, he had to take complete custody over him. Jude wasn't happy with the whole situation and began grieving his ex-wife. Drinking and whatnot. He started to physically and mentally abuse Adam at a young age, around 7. This went on for years. Adam was always late to school because his dad refused to drive him. He was able to pass school because of cheating, until he had enough of that to high school and dropped out. His father had no idea that he dropped out and was 100% unaware of everything thing Adam did. One day, Adam was tired of all of his dad's bullshit and ran away at 14. He knew Jonah and decided to follow him home one day. Jonah had a treehouse in his backyard and Adam hid lived in there for about a week before Jonah found out. Jonah decided to keep him there and help him out without telling his father. He snuck out food and blankets for him to keep him safe. Jonah and Adam basically became best friends with some sort of mutualism. Jonah took care of Adam and gave him food. Adam gave him comfort and companionship because Jonah wasn't a "normal kid" and was made fun of by others at school. They were actually pretty cool. Adam's father never filed a missing report because he didn't give two fucks about his kid.

(Ghost AU add-on) Him and Jonah are still alive. The same events happened, however. And they have a love-ish / hate relationship. Some times (rarely) are just love intended insults or apologies, but regularly and most of the time, they have arguments over EVERYTHING.
