Harry Potter and the Trip Through Time
Chapter Seven: Harry's Magic Act
Book 1Over the next few days, Harry felt as if he'd spent more time in the library that week than the last four years of his life combined. He and Riddle were yet to come up with a workable way to get rid of their apple. Well, Riddle had. Harry had come up with an idea that had stemmed from a joke Ron told him, but Riddle shot it down every time he brought it up.
"Just think about it." Harry persisted, "The apple would be gone."
Riddle slammed his book closed, "We are not changing the apple." He said sternly, "The task is to get rid of it, not turn it into something else."
"But you could get rid of it by turning it into something else." Harry tried, "If you turned a feather into a piece of parchment, you would have gotten rid of the feather. All that's left is the parchment."
"We're not supposed to leave anything behind." Riddle reminded him.
Harry shrugged, "So turn it into air."
"You can't just turn something into air, Potter."
"Why not?"
"Because-" Riddle paused before sighing, "I don't know."
Harry grinned, "I say we try it. If we can get it to work, I have no doubt we'll get an O. Especially if the 'great Tom Riddle' didn't know it was possible."
Riddle rolled his eyes at Harry's sarcastic tone, "And what if it doesn't work? Then we'll have wasted all of our time and have nothing to show for it."
"Then we'll figure something out."
"Like what?"
Harry thought for a moment, "I could have my patronus eat it then disappear. That would probably work."
"Patronuses can't eat." Riddle deadpanned, "How dim are you? Besides, you'd have to make a corporeal patronus. Not even I can do that."
"Can you not come up with a happy enough memory?" Harry asked.
Riddle looked over at Harry blankly. His mouth opened for a second before it snapped shut.
"It took me a few tries before I found the right memory." Harry said.
There was silence for a moment before Riddle spoke, "What memory?"
Harry smiled softly, remembering the first time he cast his patronus.
"Getting to be with my dad." He said, afterall, the thought of getting to stay with Sirius was what he had used that time.
Riddle raised an eyebrow, "So any day ever?"
Harry laughed humorlessly, "More like any day since we moved to London."
The two of them fell silent, that was, until that silence was broken by a group of people bursting into the library.
"Harry!" A voice called out.
Harry turned around in his seat to see Ron running up towards him, followed by the rest of the Gryffindor Quidditch team.
"William fell off his broom!" Ron told Harry, "He had to go to Saint Mungos."
