CHAPTER 3
(YOU'RE WITH ME)

The next morning I was woken up by my alarm blaring into my ears from my beside table. So I rolled over while I groaned before I got out of bed and had a shower before getting changed into my scrubs. Before heading downstairs to get something to eat before I would head out to work. As I walked down the stairs Kelly looked at me worriedly "what's the matter" Kelly asked as I reached the bottom of the stairs. "I think I messed up" i said as i sat the table.

"How come?" Kelly asked as he sat down infront of me "I shouted at the head of Neuro during a surgery" I said which made an awkward expression of his face "Dr Abrams is a piece of work and it could affect by whole career" I said as a glum expression appeared on my face "hey" Kelly said as he reached for my hand and put his hand on mine. "We all make mistakes hell I've made a lot" Kelly said with a chuckle "but knowing you I know it was for a good reason" Kelly said with a smile. "But your a good doctor and I'm sure he will see that" Kelly said giving me some reassurance.

Because he was one of the most incredible fire fighters I had ever met and if he could see something in me that I could I had to prove him right as well as proving to Dr Abrams that I was going to be a good doctor and surgeon. "Thanks Kelly" I said with a smile as squeezed his hand before I grabbed a protein bar and a bottle of juice before heading out to work. As I walked through the doors I said good morning to everyone before I reached Maggie "Dr Severide your with Neuro again today" Maggie said which shocked me.

"How come" I asked because I was confused, why did Dr Abrams want me on his service when I shouted at him and made him look bad towards his colleagues "you'll have to ask him" Maggie said with a little sarcasm in his voice "ok" I said before heading to the locker room  and putting in my bag and coat into the locker before locking it behind me. Before heading out of the locker room and up to the Neuro Department. I looked around for a while until I noticed him in a room.

So I walked over before stepping in to see he was with a patient so i knocked on the door "ahh Dr Severide come in" Dr Abrams said so I looked at him confused before I walked in and watched him work before we both walked out of the room "why am I here" I asked which made him just stare at me "because even though you shouted at your boss during a surgery, you were right" Dr Abrams said which shocked me "don't look at me like that doesn't mean that I suddenly like you" Dr Abrams said as he walked off and I followed him.

Before we prepared for surgery "what do you see" Dr Abrams asked as he showed me his tablet screen which showed a tumour "a tumour on the right temple lobe but where it's positioned it's going to be tricky to get out the patient could end up blind or worse" i said which seemed to impress him which he wasn't known for, he was known for having a resting bitch face. "correct you can scrub in" Dr Abrams said which made me smile.

"I'll see you in the OR" Dr Abrams said before placing his tablet under his arm and walking away as he did I went to the doctors lounge and re reading all of my research on dissecting brain tumours, because I had already gotten into Dr Abrams bad books once I couldn't risk doing it again or causing any harm to the patient. I hadn't really thought about what my specialty I wanted after I finished my residency but Dr Abrams clearly saw something in me because otherwise he wouldn't have put me on his service again because he was blunt, to the point and didn't take any prisoners.

After sitting in the doctors lounge for most of the day surviving on coffee and protein bars I collected up all my research and books putting them into my locker before heading up to the OR.
As I stood next to him in surgery he turned to face me "take over from me" Dr Abrams said which shocked me because I was I was a first year resident so I just stood there and didn't move which seemed to annoy him because he began to glare at me. "Take over from me Dr Severide" Dr Abrams said snapping at me so I quickly swapped places with him.

Before beginning to dissect the tumour piece by piece so that I didn't hit the nerves that effect the eye sight or worse before leaving a small portion of the tumour remaining before I stopped because I couldn't take anymore out because I would be too close to the danger zone "we will have to leave the rest of the tumour in and go back in once we've come up with a more in-depth plan of what to do next" Dr Abrams said as he looked at me before he walked out of the OR leaving me to close up the patient before I walked out of the OR and began to scrub out.

"Good job in there, you will be on the team for the next surgery" Dr Abrams said as I was washing my hands which made me smile because I had impressed Dr Abrams. "I'm only push the surgeons with the most potential" Dr Abrams said he was starting to become different, nice which he wasn't known for "Thankyou Dr Abrams" I said as I looked at him and for a moment our eyes met before I quickly walked away "I'll see you tomorrow Dr Severide" Dr Abrams said before drying his hands and walking I watched him as he did.

Over the next couple of weeks I was in every surgery with Dr Abrams learning from him everyday and getting better each day and i began to form an interest in Neuro as I was sat in the doctors lounge the door opened "Dr Severide" I heard Dr Abrams say which made me turn around "Dr Abrams" I said sounding confused "so I guess you've heard about the charity gala ball" Dr Abrams asked "yeah, unfortunately residents don't get to go" I said sounding disappointed. "Well I get a plus one and I couldn't be seen to be going alone, and I'd rather not take someone boring who will make the event more boring than it actually is so I was wondering if you would attend with me" Dr Abrams said which shocked me.

"I'm a resident" I said "yes but your coming with the head of Neuro" Dr Abrams said "of course Thankyou" I said sounding excited.
