CHAPTER 2
(TRAIN CRASH)
[SERIES 1 EPISODE 1]

I was late to work because of a train de railing I saw it on my way to work so I got out of my car and ran over as I reached the carriage I looked around, seeing so much blood, people laid around dead and alive. As I entered I saw a man tending to some of the people so I ran over "Hi, I'm Lexi I'm a doctor can I help" I said which made him look at me "Connor Rhodes I'd shake you hand but as you can see" Connor said his hands covered in blood.

Myself and Dr Rhodes tended to as many people as we could but this was the first scene like this I had ever seen but it was the reason I became a doctor to help people as we got in the ambulance I stood above the patient giving him CPR I saw Connor struggle to intibate him "I can't get it in he keeps biting down" Connor said getting flustered "swap" I said getting down and swapping with him trying to get it in but eventually I did "got it" I said getting the tube in.

As the ambulance arrived I jumped out and followed Connor inside as we walked in the ER Maggie noticed me "I began to wonder where you were" Maggie asked walking over to me and passing me a clipboard "well there was a train crash on my way to work" I said taking it off her as Connor went into a bay "thanks" I said putting on some gloves "you're with Neuro, good luck" Maggie said as I scoffed. The head of Neuro was Abrams I had never met him however I had heard of he was a grump and hated his residents. As I walked into the bay I saw him over a patients head "can I help you?" Dr Abrams said as he looked at me stood in the doorway of the bay.

"I've been assigned to you" I said as Dr Abrams raised his eyebrows "there go you" Dr Abrams said as I walked over taking over from him "if you need me I'll be upstairs" Dr Abrams said as he left me stood there, a first year resident. However I completed the task I was given because if I wanted to make it at Chicago Med and be the doctor I wanted to be I needed to impress my fellow doctors especially the ones like Doctor Abrams as I finished I closed up before heading out of the bay and taking off the gloves before taking a deep breathe.

Because I was in shock "you ok" Dr Halstead said before I felt his hand touch my shoulder, Will had became a friend of mine because my brother and his house were friends with the detectives at the 21st district, "I've never seen anything like this before" I said trying to not get upset "but you didn't crumble" Will said as he stepped to my side because I was looking away from him "you have the makings of a fine doctor" Will said "Thankyou" I said wiping the tears away.

As I was seeing a patient Maggie walked over "your needed in the OR with Dr Abrams" Maggie said which shocked me "why I'm not a Neuro resident" I asked confused "well you must have impressed him" Maggie said before walking away so I headed upstairs and scrubbed in before heading into the ER "Ahh Dr Severide" Dr Abrams said as he saw me walk in. "Maggie said you wanted to see me" I said as I stood there "yeah come over here and hold this" Dr Abrams said so I walked over and did what he asked "Removing Cranial flap now." Dr Abrams said as he removed the Cranial Flap which showed her brain "Swellings pretty pronounced. If we waited any longer, she would have herniated." Dr Abrams said as I looked down at the brain.

I was mesmerised because I had never been this close to one before, "Fetal heartbeat steady." Will said as the heart monitor beeped "I don't recall inviting you into my OR." Dr Abrams said as he looked at will "Give me suction here." Dr Abrams said "yes doctor." A theatre nurse said before she passed me the suction I stood there with an ok look on my face before taking it and suctioning the area where Dr Abrams was working on.

"Alright, as soon as I cauterise this. We can get into the Dura" Dr Abrams said as the fetal heartbreak monitor began to beep something was wrong with the baby "Fetal heart rate is dropping." I heard someone say "I haven't opened the dura yet." Dr Abrams said "Patients BP is falling, 110" I then heard someone say "I'm almost there" Dr Abrams said "100" I then heard "we don't have time if we continue this baby may die" I said snapping at him before placing now the suction and the peds surgeon began to gown up "can I help" I said looking at her.

"Gown up" she said before I was gowned up "you were asked here to help me" Dr Abrams said sarcastically "right now that baby needs my help" I said snapping back at him "Tracings look like crap. That ship doesn't correct in 30 seconds. We're crash sectioning her" The peds surgeon said as I stood next to her "Give me suction here. Give me suction right now. More" Dr Abrams said as I stood and watched.

As I scrubbed out Dr Abrams stood there quietly before he looked and glared at me "don't you ever talk to me like that again" Dr Abrams shouted at me "you may have talent but you have to learn that you have superiors and if you ever speak to me like that again I will have you thrown off the program" Dr Abrams said as he looked at me but I looked at me "understood" Dr Abrams said but I stood there quietly. "Understood" Dr Abrams then shouted at me so I stopped and looked at him. "Yes I understand" I said as he huffed before walking away.

Later that day rather than head home I headed to Mollies a bar owned by Herrmann one of the firefighters from fire house 51. "Hey Lexi" Herrmann said as I walked over to the bar and sat down in a grump "what's up" Herrmann asked sounding concerned "I think I screwed up" I said as he opened a beer before passing it to me "how come?" Herrmann asked as he leant forward against the bar "I had a go at my boss during a surgery" I said which made him smile "it's not funny Herrmann" I said sounding annoyed with him "I know, Lex we all make mistakes but we have to learn from them and become better" Herrmann said which made me smile a little "thanks Herrmann" I said with a smile as I began to drink my beer.
