Two weeks to go was when I started getting ready, I'd been shopping for a few essential holiday items. You know the usual suncream, travel shampoo and conditioner, US travel plugs that sort of thing. I also had to go to the post office and get my passport renewed as it ran out last year, now I have one of those fancy biometric ones.
That was all last week though and with less than a week to go I thought I'd better try and find something's to do next week. I found out that there was the new Avengers film premiering on the Monday. I'm a Marvel fan, I think they're great, so needless to say I tried to get a ticket but wasn't surprised to find out they had all sold out. I figured that I would do some of the touristy things instead and see the Hollywood sign and do the walk of fame, maybe even go to the beach and do some shopping.
The rest of the week past relatively quickly, I finished packing and made sure to draw out some money both British and American just enough for food throughout the week and other bits and bobs.
The night before my flight I made sure I had everything I need in my hand luggage including my laptop and changer, camera with extra batteries and a extra memory card as I planed on taking lots of pictures. Double checking the front of my bag for my tickets and passport, I set out some comfortable clothes as knew it would be a long flight and I'd probably have to hang around the airport before my flight. I made sure my phone was on charge before heading off to bed as I planned on getting up early so I could sleep on the plane and hopefully avoid getting jet lagged.
I woke up the next morning at 7 o'clock ready and excited for this week. I made myself breakfast using what was left in the fridge so it didn't go off while I was away. Then I went through the normal holiday routine of turning everything off, folding the laundry, doing the dishes and locking all the windows and doors. Finally I went to have a shower taking my time as I still had about an hour before the car was supposed to arrive.
I showered and tidied up the mess I made in the bathroom before getting dressed and plaiting my still damp hair, my hairs so long it's hard to plait dry. Also when I plait it wet it makes it nice and wavy when it drys and I take it out. It was almost half 9 so I quickly nipped to the toilet. Flushing the chain I heard the car honk outside so I grabbed my bags and my phone putting the charge in my bag. With one last look around I left making sure to lock the door behind me.
"Hello Miss Martins, my names Dan and I'll be your driver today." A man said as he took my bags and put them in the boot of the car before opening the door for me. I smiled at him and said thank you.
The drive to Heathrow airport was relatively quiet and it was still early enough that there wasn't much traffic on the way not that I lived very far away anyway. Dan was very polite and friendly, he asked me if I had ever been to LA before and what I had planned for the week. I told him that I planned to do lots of touristy things and that I was going to try out some of the popular restaurants near the hotel.
When we got to the airport Dan opened the door for me and handed me my bags. "Miss Martins I almost forgot, here is your spending money. Have a good time." He said handing me an envelope.
"Thank you Dan, I'll try. Enjoy your weekend, bye." I waved as I walked down the path and into the airport putting the envelop into my hand luggage. I checked in my bag at the Delta check in desk, luckily for me it was under weight so I didn't have to worry about it. I made my way over to security. Unfortunately there was a massive queue, great.
I was standing there for no longer than 5 minutes and the queue had only moved a little bit. I was just about to sit down on my case when a nice looking customs officer came up to me. "Excuse me Miss?" He said to me.
