Red Velvet Princess
Chapter five
-ALEX'S POV-
My Mums mouth curled into a grin ' Oh isn't this great! Oh Alex I'm so happy for you! Are those tears of joy?' She bursts, squeezing my into a hug.
'What?! No. I hate him mum. He ruined my whole life.' I said, backing out of the hug.
'Oh. But, I though that you'd be happy your best friend came back.' My mum asked, clearly confused.
'I would've been happy two years ago, I'd given up hope. Thought he'd abandoned me. He told me he wouldn't forget me.' I exclaimed.
'Maybe he didn't!' My mum argued.
I stopped her. 'Yeah, he clearly remembers his supposedly best friend who he never bothered to Skype or call.' I exasperated.
'Well, do you want me to call him?' She offers, picking up the phone.
I stretch my hand out 'NO! I can't speak to him.' I mumbled.
'Well why ever no-' my mum started but was cut off my the phone itself.
*RING RING*
*RING RING*
'Hello I'm Anna, this is Holmes Chapel Centre Bakery. How may I help you?' My Mum sang down the phone, a little too cheerfully.
'Mmhhmm. Mmhhmm.' She murmured in response, before peeling the phone away from her ear and handing it to me.
'Its for you.' She explained.
'Hello? I'm Alex. Holmes Chapel Bakery, how may I help you.' I said.
'Centre Bakery.' My Mum corrected.
'Holmes Chapel Centre Bakery.' I repeated, putting emphasis on the 'centre.'
-HARRY'S POV-
'Hello? Alex? It's me Harry. Listen I know you don't want to talk to me, but please just listen.' I said quickly, before she hung up on me.
'I know Harry. But I really can't be dealing with this right now, I've got to get back to the bakery and...'
'Alex please. I messed up I know.'
'You sure did.' She hissed.
'Listen, I really want to see you again.'
'You did. Today.'
'Yes but..that's different.'
'No it's not.'
'Yes it is.'
'No it's not.'
'Yes it- ugh will you just listen to me! I really want to see you again.'
'And I never wanted my best friend in the whole world to leave. But it looks like neither of us are getting what we wanted.' She snarled, before slamming the phone down.
-ALEX'S POV-
I slammed the phone down an handed it to my mum telling her that if it rings again and he wants to speak to me, to tell him no.
I jogged to the back kitchen and looked at the most recent order.
'24 chocolate muffins.' I mumbled to myself.
I took out the ingredients and started baking the cakes.
An hour later, my mum had already gone home, and I had prepared two batches of chocolate muffins.
I went to the cash register and waited for the person to pick them up.
'Hi I'm Eleanor Calder, here to collect 24 muffins at..half past nine.' She smiled.
'Yep. Your lucky. We close at half past, you'd been here a minute later and those muffins would've been gone.' I winked, fetching the muffins.
When I came back she was staring at me intently.
'Hm..I recognise you...oh wait... Oh no..erm...Alex? You're Harry's best friend.' She gaped. (A.N. no not gasped, there really is a word 'gaped';)
'Was.' I corrected her. 'But then he left me for fame and that no good band of his, thinking he's all famous and little Alex isn't worth him anymore.' I said, raising my tone towards the end of the sentence, and picking up its pace.
'Yeah..erm..in that no good bad.' She started, air quoting the words she repeated from my rant ' is my boyfriend.' She chuckled.
'Hang on a minute... Your going out with Louis aren't you?' I asked. She nodded, chuckling softly.
'Oh, sorry about that. I just really don't like him..Harry I mean. Not Louis. Louis seems nice.' I apologised.
She shrugged it off saying 'Well, Harry certainly likes you. He talks about you all the time. Something about a Red Velvet Princess?' Her statement comes out in a questioning tone.
'Yeah...' My voice trailed off, thinking about the times Harry used to call me that due to my obsession with Red Velvet Cupcakes.
'You know Alex. He really wants to see you. You should really consider talking to him again.' She says, picking up her muffins. 'Thanks for the muffins..oh god, forgot to pay.' She giggles, taking out her purse.
'You know what? Just gimme a fiver.' I shrug.
'How much was it really?' She asks.
'£30.' I reply.
'Oh no.. I couldn't.' She shakes her head.
'No I insist, a fiver will be fine.' I laugh, snatching the £5 note out her hand.
'Thank you Alex. But I mean it. Talk to him.' She smiles before exiting the shop.
I yawn silently thinking about her words.
I stumble over to the door and flip the sign over from 'COME IN. WERE OPEN.'
to 'SORRY WERE CLOSED.'
I drag myself through the kitchen and up the back stairs where my mum and I live.
You tell me where my dad is.
I clump onto my bed and crawl under the covers, not bothering to change.
'GOING TO BED. NIGHT MUM.' I yell to my mum.
'NIGHT HUN.'
-HARRY'S POV-
I sit on the edge of my bed running my hands through my curls.
...And I wanted my best friend in the whole world never to leave...
Did I hurt her that badly? Her words swam around my head, playing with my mind.
I just wanted to find her. Hug her. Tell her I'm sorry. I wanted to be worthy of being her best friend again.
I did the only thing I could think of at 10 o'clock at night.
I got up, I wet outside,
And I drove to my old bakery.
