VERA WOKE UP in her bed next to Belly, her head throbbing. Behind her eyes hurt the worst. Belly laid there on her phone, already dressed and ready for the day.
"Holy shit, what time is it?" Vera sat up, running her fingers through her tangled hair.
"Oh good, you're awake." Belly sighed almost as if in relief. "It's almost noon."
Vera sat there a moment, trying to piece together what had happened the night before, but found it hard to do so, as she seemed to be missing pieces to the puzzle. "Um... what happened last night?"
"So much- like so much." Belly grinned, "We need to catch up. Smoothie run?"
"Yeah, yeah sure." Vera rubbed her still tired eyes. "Just let me change." She looked down at what she was wearing and recognized the tshirt as Belly's.
"Oh, yeah." Belly sat down on the bed again after seeing Vera eye the shirt. "I thought you probably didn't want to sleep in your nice top and jean shorts, so I put my tshirt on you last night. You were completely out... and you also missed my mom's lecture, so she might ambush you later." She laughed.
"Uh, oh." Vera laughed, "Laurel lectured us?"
"Yep, she pretty much freaked out at the fact that you were out cold. Conrad had to help me get you up the stairs and in bed last night... what the hell did you say to Jeremiah?" She asked. "I asked him to help but he wanted nothing to do with it."
"I don't actually remember." Vera admitted, "The last thing I remember is making out with that guy Drew next to the fire and Jeremiah and I kept on making weird eye contact when he was flirting with those girls."
"You called them his bitches. Do you remember that?" She asked.
"No." Vera gulped. Even though she didn't completely remember, she couldn't have said anything that terrible, right?
She thought for sure Jeremiah would still be waiting downstairs in the kitchen for her with his special hangover cure. But he wasn't.
"Where's Jeremiah?" Vera asked Susannah, who sat on the couch reading a book.
"He and Steven took off for their first day of work about an hour ago, why?" she took off her glasses and sat up to face Vera.
"Uh..." Vera picked at her nails, "Just- just wondering. I need to uh, talk to him about something."
Susannah gave her an all-knowing look. "Are you okay? Laurel told me what happened last night. I hope my boys were looking out for you."
"Oh, they were." Vera nodded, "and I'm completely fine. It's just a little headache."
"Oh!" Susannah suddenly jumped up with an excited twinkle in her eye, "I saw that you and Belly both signed the debutante cards. We are going shopping! Oh, honey this is going to be amazing." She beamed.
"Oh... I-" The confusion only lasted for a few seconds before it hit Vera that Belly had signed Vera's for her, but Susannah was too excited now. There was no way Vera could burst her bubble. "Yeah!" She awkwardly cheered, hoping that the smile she was forcing seemed genuine. She was going to murder Belly.
