About a week had passed since the ball and I remained in my room.
"Princess... can I come in?"
"No."
"You haven't eaten. It's been a week."
"Good. Let me starve to death and then maybe father can actually care about the well-beings of his daughters."
The maid sighed, "Alright, I'll take the food back to the kitchen."
The patter of her footsteps echoed and I could tell she was no longer by my door. Realizing that I was finally alone, I let myself go.
Sniffling, I silently cried. Hugging one of my stuffed animals was the one of the comforts I found in this damned world of mine.
My hands found another comfort, which was playing with my pendent.
I really wished my mother was alive.
She would've stopped all this madness.

As time passed into the night, I fell asleep. However, I felt someone watching me. An eerie feeling.
Trusting my instincts, I opened my eyes.
I quickly grabbed the intruder by the arm and flipped them underneath me. My dagger that hid under my pillow came in handy as I gripped it and held it against their neck.
"Woah there, princess. I didn't know you were into these things."
Recognizing the voice, I held the dagger closer to his neck.
"What the hell are you doing in my room?! You really are a stalker!" I whispered loudly.
He tapped on the blade, seeming unfazed. "Well, first things first. If you remove the blade, maybe I can explain myself. I can't talk if I'm dead can I?"
Frowning, I removed the dagger away from him but kept it in hand. Just in case he were to do anything. Sliding off him, I sat down against the wall of my bed.
"So? Start talking stalker."
Aaron sighed, "Not. A. Stalker. That's one. Two, you touched me... again."
I rolled my eyes, "You expect me not to touch an intruder and not defend myself? Sounds crazy to me. You're here talking boundaries and I'm here claiming self defense."
Surprisingly, he was still wearing his face mask and I could still not distinguish what he looked like. All I could see was his eyes. They were ruby red. Honestly, they were quite mesmerizing.
"You really have beautiful eyes..." I muttered quietly, not realizing that I spoken my thoughts out loud.
Aaron stayed quiet and looked away, his demeanor turning cold suddenly.
"You're a weird one. Who says that?" He complained, quickly changing the topic.
I grew embarrassed, knowing that I was out of my mind for doing so. I can't believe I said that. He's a stalker and is an intruder in my room! I should be kicking him out. I must not be thinking straight, because of everything that's been happening.
"So are you going to explain yourself or what? Why are you here?" I asked, crossing my arms.
Aaron sighed. "I'm here to give you back your handkerchief. You do realize what it means when a woman leaves it behind, right?"
I scowled, "My handkerchief is right here." I said, reaching over to my nightstand. Only to see that it was completely missing.
When did I lose it?
Seeing my confusion, Aaron explained that I had dropped it during my encounter with my ex. I had dropped it when he grabbed me. Perhaps I should look into securing my valuables better.
When a lady leaves her handkerchief behind, it means that you're allowing a gentleman to pursue you. The masses won't be pleased to know about their princess dropping their handkerchief.
Especially when she is engaged.
"What if others saw you take my handkerchief?" I said, bewildered of why a stranger would help me.
"It's common courtesy for a gentleman to return a lost handkerchief to a lady. I'm not pursuing you. So regardless of what they were thinking, it doesn't matter. They don't even know who I am anyways."
I bit my lip, knowing I had to thank him.
"I appreciate your gesture... you prevented the royal family from having a scandal. How can we repay you?"
He chuckled, "I'd save my payment for later, princess."
I frowned, "Saving it? I'm not saying the payment can be anything. It has to be reasonable."
"So I request that the payment can wait and I can use it when it's time."
'Just go with it, human. You owe him for saving you from our ex and now the handkerchief.' My wolf Lorelei complained.
"Fine, as you wish. We'll reserve your payment for the future."
Hopefully it doesn't get used.
"Now, what's wrong?"
Rolling my eyes, I replied, "I'm getting married."
"Who would want to marry someone as venomous as you?" He resorted.
I sighed, "It's not just any marriage, you dickhead."
The stalker stayed silent, listening.
"Marriage is marriage. You seem unhappy, so my guess is that it's arranged. Consider yourself lucky that it's loveless. You won't be hurt or tied down."
Believing him would have been great... but I knew better.
"So, how do you feel about it? I'm assuming you already know who it is? You've met him?" He asked curiously.
Biting my lip, I nervously played with my fingers. "Honestly, I have no idea. A part of me wants to run for the hills and the other half of me knows that I shouldn't believe all rumors. Gossip is just plain gossip... but then again, my rumored marriage came out to be true." I breathed, sighing. "I'm not sure what to believe anymore."
The man stared at me in silence, tilting his head. His expression showed that he was puzzled, observing me.
"Oh shit, I mean... I'm sorry. I didn't mean to start rambling."
"No, it seems like you had a lot on your chest."
I clicked my tongue, biting my inner cheek. "You could say that. I'm the eldest daughter of King Eiden... so I have to fulfill my roles and marry for the sake of the treaty. Pretty lame right?"
Laughing bitterly, I didn't notice that a tear fell. Then another, and another.
"If the treaty is that important, my father should have married King Oberon himself. We were only here because it settled the treaty, but I didn't think I'd be getting married." I said, sniffling as I wiped away my tears.
The gentleman smiled, "I don't think King Oberon would appreciate that."
"I'm sure he would. I'm actually supposed to meet my fiancé in a week or two. To say I'm nervous is an understatement." I mumbled.
"Look, I know we don't know each other but I'd give him a chance. He doesn't seem that bad."
"We'll see."
Moments passed and I start to yawn.
"It's time for bed, princess. I hope you can pardon my intrusion. Please take care." Aaron said briefly before approaching the balcony and vanishing into the dark.
Rubbing my heavy eyelids, I sighed.
I must be crazy for talking to a random man about my life. Getting back into my bed, I snuggled into my pillow with millions of feelings running through me.
What was I thinking?
I thought as slumber took me.
