Alternative version of the start of Hackett's Quarryusing they/them pronouns :)
This was the last day for the counselor group in camp, the group wanted to do a small road trip to New York city before they parted ways.
"The Hag of Hackett's Quarry, is that even real?" Dylan questioned.
"Um, honestly I don't know dude, I've been just listening to these podcasts and shit." Ryan responded, looking bored.
"Uh-huh... well if it is then, honestly it literally can't, it's what we tell the kids for our scary story sesh." Dylan crossed his arms.
"I guess so." Ryan put his earbuds back in, walking to somewhere else.
Dylan walked up to y/n, who was leaning on the van talking to Kaitlyn. "Hey guys, need help with anything?" Dylan asked.
"Yeah, could you find Jacob, the dudes has been gone for like 10 minutes." Kaitlyn sighed.
"We've been waiting forever for these bags to appear, I wonder if he forgot about them." Y/n laughed.
"Uh...yeah I'll try to find him." Dylan gave them a finger snap and walked into the lodge.
Y/n saw Nick on the stairs, playing with a bracelet in his hands. They walked up to the boy. Nick looked up at them, smiling. "Hey Y/n, what brings you here?" Nick scooted over for y/n to sit next to him.
"Just checking up, how you feeling?" Y/n looking at the bracelet he was messing around with then at him.
"I'm fine but, I don't wanna leave this place... but at the same time, I miss my family." Nick put the bracelet on himself and looked at y/n. "What bout you?" He smiled.
"Yeah I feel the same, I'm gonna miss everyone here and the kids..."
"And me?" Nick interrupted.
Y/n blushed, they laughed lightly. "And of course you Nick." They gave him a big grin. "Are you gonna miss me too?" They asked the question back, raising their eyebrow.
"I will be missing you the most y/n." Nick smiled.
A few seconds later Jacob opened the door behind from where they were sitting. "Got the bags, let's go."
"Finally! What took you so long?" Kaitlyn said in annoyance.
"I was just looking around you know.." Jacob murmured the last few words.
Jacob handed the bags to Kaitlyn and opened the driver seat door. He put the key in and the car turned on. "Alright guys, let's gooo, we wanna be there before sunset."
Everyone got in the minivan, Jacob was the driver while Emma was in the passenger seat, giving directions through her phone. Abi, Kaitlyn and Dylan were sitting in the middle seat while y/n, Nick, and Ryan sat in the back.
"To New York City!" Emma yelled out, followed by the others.
I had my earbuds in, listening to my mellow playlist.
listening to: Sappho by Frankie Cosmos...
"Can you tell I have no floors..." I softly sang the lyrics while everyone was conversing about the things they would do in the city.
I looked to my left seeing Ryan looking out the window, having both his earbuds on, probably listening to a podcast. I went back looking at my phone seeing what song was playing next.
listening to: Italo Disco by Last Dinosaurs...
I saw Nick looking down at my phone, seeing what I was doing. "Oh my God, I love that song!" I looked up at him to see his big smile. "You do?" I switched my left earbud to my right, giving the left one to him. "You wanna listen with me?" I saw Nick looking at the earbud, slowly picking it up and putting it in his ear. The torso difference between me and him was a bit large, he had to lean over to the left a bit so the earbuds wouldn't fall out
"The sunset over our time together..." Nick sang, humming the other parts. His voice sounded so smooth, and soft. I felt my cheeks getting hotter just listening to him. I put my head down and squeezed my eyes shut just thinking about how cute he is.
"GUYS LOOK! COWS!" Kaitlyn blurted out. We passed a fenced field, seeing cows and goats.
"Eeeee!" Abi squealed, looking over her right. Jacob slowed down a bit so everyone could see the farm animals roaming around the field, eating grass and hay.
"Aww~ they're so cute." Nick cooed over them.
I looked over Nick's shoulder, seeing the cattle. "Not as much as you though.." I whispered.
"Huh?" Nick turned his head to you, tilted his head to the side.
"Oh, what? I said nothing." I tried to play it off cool.
That was actually so stupid of me
"Uh-huh... yeah.." Nick looked skeptical, turning his head back at the cows.
Half an hour into the road trip, everyone was silent. The calm lo-fi music playing softly from Emma's playlist. Everyone was doing their own thing. Kaitlyn on her phone, looking at restaurants and places they could go to, Abi looking with her. Dylan complained about every little thing he saw on the road.
Ryan, of course still having two earbuds in, fast asleep, and Nick listening to my playlist.
Nick yawned, causing him to stretch his arms out in front. His legs spread apart a bit wider, me and Nick's legs were touching.
I stared at my knee, looking at all the "space" we had between them..
He started bouncing his leg up and down out of boredom. My eyes widened, looking at my knee getting touched by him every time.
listening to: Weekend Friend by Goth Babe
Every beat he heart, he moved his leg with it, making me giggle.
Aghhh he's so cute
He hummed to the chorus,
"Darling, what you waiting there for.." His voice sounded soothing and comforting with every word he sang. A small accent change to the song made it sound better. I felt my face getting hot.
Wait, am I... blushing?
My hands went up to my face quickly feeling the warmth of my cheeks.
"Hah," Nick chuckled. "What are you doing?"
I continued to look down, trying to be content. "Nothing, I just.. I don't actually know. My face felt hot for a second."
"Oh no... you're not sick are you?" I heard Nick's concerned voice, he took out his earbud. I saw his fingers trying to lift the hair that was covering my eyes. "Wait... you're red." His eyes widened. "Like, super red."
He tucked my loose strands behind my ear, lifting my chin up to his face.
"Are you sure... you're okay y/n?" He lightly tilted his head to the side. He cupped both of his hands to my cheeks.
My eyes squeezed shut, I couldn't keep a serious face, smiling and laughing in his hands. I put my hands onto his, sliding it down to his wrist, wrapping my fingers around them.
His eyes widened, looking at my expression. His concerned face turned into a relief. "Stop scaring me y/n, almost made me panic.' He went closer to my face, jokingly growled and furrowed his eyebrows, squeezing my face together.
"Stop!" I leaned into his face, inches apart from his lips. My heart did a flip, looking at his coffee brown eyes.
He kept squeezing my cheeks, playing around with my whole face. Nick leaned in closer and gave me a quick kiss.
My breath became unsteady after what just happened. My hands still on his wrist, while his hands cupped on my face.
Nick pulled his hands away from my face, grabbing my right hand, holding it. He rubbed his thumb over mine. I looked down at our hands locked together, his long fingers wrapping around mine. Nick picked up the earbud again with his other arm, putting it back in his ear. Nick leaned his head next to mine.
"You're cute when your face is red."
