It's been over 3 months since I saw Nick from camp. I really miss everyone there, the kids, the counselors, and Nick of course. We talked about meeting up again a while ago, I don't think I'll see him ever again. The memories of camp flooded in my mind, all the activities, chats, and adventures we had. It felt so long ago. Tears started forming in my eyes, my vision started to fog up.
Did he really forget about me? Did he move on with his life with another girl? What happened to the promise we kept at camp?
Tears ran down my cheeks in the coffee shop.
I rummaged through my backpack to leave a tip on the table, taking one more sip of my coffee, I flung my backpack over my shoulder and rubbed my eyes, leaving the shop.
The skies were gray, dull and empty shops around the town. Brown eaves were brittle and falling from trees. Everything looked cold and dreary. I walked to my college building, continuing the few classes I have left for the day.
Paying attention to the class is hard. No motivation whatsoever crossed my mind, I couldn't even write a single word. My brain fogged up with overthinking and reminiscence.
"Alright, that's it for today, email me if you're struggling." The professor finished his lecture, walking off the platform.
I sighed, closing my binder and notebooks, walking down the stairs to the cafeteria. Looking around, everyone had a significant other or friends to sit with, I felt lonely. I checked my phone to see a notification.
"The fuck, Nick?"
He remembered?
Sunday.
Y/n is at the airport, sleep deprived. It was 12am and she couldn't stop yawning. She waited for Nick to appear at the gate but never saw him.
"I'm gonna go walk around."
It was her and a couple other people. An old couple, two families, and a middle-aged man drinking coffee near the Dunkin Donut in the airport.
She walked into a small gift shop looking at the little rings and bracelets in there. Y/n tried them one by one. All the rings were hand made by an old lady that's sitting near the counter. She kept looking at the small crystal on the ring.
"Damn this looks so nice. I want it." Y/n said to herself.
"You want this?"
The girl heard a soft spoken Australian accent behind her. She widens her eyes, turning around slowly. Her eyes started tearing up seeing a tall brown hair male looking down on her. She threw herself onto the man.
"Nick!"
She started crying, holding him close to her as tight as possible.
"Hello y/n." Nick smiled, dropping his backpack and picking her up. Y/n's legs were wrapped around his torso, her head in the crook of his neck, smelling the sweet scented cologne he had on.
"Is it you? Is it really you?" The girl looked at his eyes, cupping his face in her hands. "You're so cute y/n." Nick smiled at her widely. She teared up again, hugging him tightly.
He put her down but didn't want to let go. Y/n looked at Nick with teary eyes.
"You look shorter than I remember.." Nick teased, softly patting her head.
"I think you just forgot what I look like, considering you didn't keep in touch after 3 months." Y/n still holding the grudge from camp.
Nick looked guilty. "I'm really sorry I just didn't know how to talk to you again, I thought you were focusing on your studies, I didn't want to ruin your focus. He looked down, grabbing his suitcase tighter.
Y/n took his hand into hers. "You not talking to me made me overthink and not focused."
Nick looked at the girl's hand holding his, nodding slowly.
"Now let's go home, there's so many things I want to tell you." Y/n guided Nick out of the airport. Going into her car.
listening to: ANGOSTURA by keshi
The mellow song playing quietly on the radio, soft humming coming out of y/n's lips. The road was dark, headlights were the only source of light.
"So,,, how have you been?" Nick tried to break the silence.
"Same shit, stressed out about college and my finances. How bout you?" Y/n keeping an eye on the road.
"Nothing much to be honest." He turned his head to the window, looking at all the convenience stores around. " I really missed you y/n, I missed the last night of camp. I missed everything." Nick places his hand on y/n's thigh rubbing it. He turned his head to see the girl's side profile. Y/n still focusing on the road, trying not to squirm around.
"You're so pretty y/n." Nick stated, smiling. He brought his fingers up to her hair, caressing and tucking her hair behind her ears. His fingers grazed around her jawline.
"Stop it Nick, I'm trying not to crash here." Y/n slowed down her brakes on the red light, trying not to break a smile in between her sentence.
He took his hand away from her face, still looking at her. Nick leaned his elbow on the compartment, he once again put his hand on her cheek guiding her to look at Nick. He leaned in and gave a kiss to y/n. He tilted her jawline to kiss her more. Nick slowly slid his tongue in her mouth, y/n parted her lips for him to enter.
Nick pulled away, breathing heavily. "Hey.. light's green."
"You're such a tease dude." Y/n stepped on the gas, speeding up.
Nick softly rubbed her right thigh, touching her gently as much as he could. "I swear I'll never leave again."
