Christmas 2022

The Smith family sat around a table, enjoying their Christmas dinner. Eventually, the topic of "Rodney! You're in your 50's, why have you never been in a relationship?" came up. Rodney awkwardly smiled and came up with an excuse.
Later in the night, the whole family was still there. Jesse, the child that Rodney's sister had birthed, was 14 now. Due to anxiety, he wasn't too fond of big gatherings, even with these people that he knew. He had in his earbuds and was listening to My Chemical Romance. He really didn't like how he was, and felt bad about seeming rude, even though it was out of his control. He went into the kitchen when no one was looking, and grabbed some alcohol, thinking it would calm him down.
Apparently, he had too much, because it gave him a little too much confidence.
He spotted out his uncle Rodney, who he hardly spoke to outside of holidays, sat down beside him, and said "I'm gay." Rodney put his hand in Jesse's shoulder and said "Me too, kid.", to which the kid responded, "well no shit, why else would I be telling you this? Anyways, I need advice." He then went on to explain how he had a crush on his best friend.
Rodney sighed, as his nephew was reminding him too much of how he was at that age. The difference was Jesse's friend was also a part of the LGBTQ community, while Rod's was apparently a homophobe.
