The figure stepped out from behind the rock. He slowly walked towards the girls causing Rina to shrink further back, and to hide behind Haruna.

"Never mind who I am." The man said, "But what do I want? Your heads of course!"

And then he lunged forward. His hand burst into flames. He reached out to Haruna, to punch her with his flaming fist, when Haruna ducked, grabbed his arm, and tossed him back crashing into the rock.

The man slowly emerged from the dust and rubble. His smirk from before had vanished, and had turned into an angry frown.

"So you think you're all high and mighty huh? Well see how you do against this!" He pointed his arm at the girls and clenched his hand tightly into a fist. Flames licked across his fingers and knuckles as he charged power.

"Rina, you think you can do this?" Haruna said without taking her eyes off of the man's fist.

Rina took a deep breath. "I don't know. I've never done anything like this before but I'll try." She closed her eyes and concentrated.

The man had nearly charged his Fire Blast... just a little more! His smirk returned to his face when the flames were fully charged.

'Say bye-bye ladies!" He opened his fist. Such a great flame emerged forth from his palm that it seemed like the whole clearing was on fire. The flame rushed towards the girls. Rina concentrated harder. Haruna simply watched.

Then a great wall of earth jumped up from the ground, so high it towered over the house! The flame crashed into it head on... and disappeared.

The man's jaw dropped. "What is an Earth Mage doing here?!" Rina fell to her knees, breathing hard, as the wall crumbled to the ground.

"Good job Rina. I'll take care of this now." Haruna charged forward with her two arms spread out on both sides. Fire built up on the tips of her fingers, and spread until it had reached all the way to her shoulders. She moved one arm in front of her the other behind. And then she jumped majestically into the air and spun as fast as she could.

"FIRE TORNADO!!

The fire spun and spun with Haruna, until a 5 story high tornado had formed. A Fire Tornado.

"What is this technique?! Argh!!" The man ran away as fast as he could, but not fast enough. The tornado that was roaring behind him caught up with him and sucked him in. His screams were drowned out by the tornado's tremendous noise.

The tornado finally slowed down, and eventually stopped. Haruna dropped to the ground, landing on her feet. The man crashed to the ground beside her with a sickening thud. He was definitely dead.

"Rina? Are you ok?" Haruna rushed towards Rina. She sat down beside her and investigated her for any damage.

"I'm fine. Just a little sore."

"Don't worry that's normal." Haruna responded with relief. "That was actually really good for a first try."

" Well technically not first, since—"

"Oh shut up Rina. Just rest for a little while, while I go check on that guy." Haruna walked over to the man's body. "Definitely a Fire Mage... but why?" She whispered to herself. "Does the King already know that me, a Fire Mage, and Rina, an Earth Mage, are friends?" Then something occurred to her. Something far more sinister than she had originally thought. She had just remembered... Her parents had been killed by a Fire Mage too. Was it because her parents had wanted to end the ongoing wars? Were they trying to finish off the resistance by killing Haruna too? And the man had been surprised when he saw the Earth Magic... so at least they didn't know Rina was here. That was one good thing.
